Demonstrating clear songwriting prowess, indie-folk artist Oly Sherman has returned with a stunning new record in Three Oh Three. An intensely personal EP, Sherman invites the listener in to gather an insight into the workings of a creative going through one of the most significant moments of his life. From it, Sherman leads this new rollout with the release of the EP’s title track, a nuanced slice of music that highlights his emotional lyrical side, as well as his confidence in bringing some darker stories to light.
Tracing the track back to a heart procedure that left Sherman with a pacemaker that would dictate his day to day that followed, ‘Three Oh Three’ is a reminder of a very specific time during this transition period.
“My pacemaker which I had put in two years ago would literally tick over everyday at 3:03pm and it sent me a little insane. I could basically narrow it down and describe the sensation through writing music and lyrics that I had come up with.” Oly Sherman
Navigating life with this adjustment to his physical make up, Sherman’s music that has resulted with the Three Oh Three EP is a representation of how sometimes creativity can be borne out of the strangest of situations. Previous singles ‘Bones’, ‘House On A Hill’ and ‘Pain Free Melody’ are strong examples of his songwriting talent, balancing dark and light textures, while elsewhere on the EP, Sherman’s rich vocal notes thrive amongst sparse arrangement (‘Reykjavik’) and layered production (‘Noir (Is There No Love Anymore)’).
Having emerged over the last year as an exciting fresh face out of Sydney’s indie-folk scene, Oly Sherman has matched his on-record captivation on stages too, winning hearts with his all-enveloping brand of performance that has seen him compared to the likes of Matt Corby and Josh Pyke. Touring throughout Sydney from September, Oly Sherman is ready to introduce more people to the fold.

THREE OH THREE EP
Track by track review by OLY SHERMAN
Reykjavik
This song was more of a mood for me. I played these chords over and over again for about 30 minutes, and it still resonates with me and presents a really calm experience. (I also wrote/constructed the song whilst travelling through Iceland.
Noir (Is There No Love?)
A song I wrote after a night of watching a lot of old black and white films, and whilst experiencing a lot of confusion with the relationships I was having at the time. I was a real fan of this pulse within the song, and remains one of my favourite tracks to this day.
Bones
Bones to me is about the feeling that somethings coming within yourself, and you don’t know whether it’s something great or something that could break you. It’s been a big year for me emotionally, and I wanted to create something that people could just dance to. I feel like whatever head space people are in, songs like this can make people just feel strong and happier. One of my favourite works to date.
Pain Free Melody
This single introduces the struggles of dealing with the fear of the unknown. After delving into his own unanswered emotions, whilst struggling with a period of writer’s block, this song emerged.
House On A Hill
This single came about from the thought of getting away from the life that himself and many others live. It’s a reminder to anyone that you can create spaces for yourself. A space to feel free and happy.
Three Oh Three
Again this song is probably the best illustration into my heart troubles for me at the time of writing. Quite literally a stopping point for me in my life. I also felt like when writing this song, I wanted to make something that you could hear at a festival, and something that my band could really let loose on.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
