Praise for RADIO FREE ALICE

“one of the best bands that I’ve heard coming out of Australia this year” – Matt Wilkinson, Apple Music 1

“this one is the one that really excited me… [the] moodiness and the melancholy” – Emily Pilbeam, BBC 6 Music

“Fans are lining up around the block to listen to their smouldering, reverb-laden live performances, and we don’t blame them for braving the heat. The hype is all due to the band’s classic DIY sound, which manages to feel both nostalgic and new.” – Camryn Teder, The Line of Best Fit

“Melbourne rockers making the case for straight-up indie royalty… immediately throws listeners into the warm embrace of the ‘80s indie greats” – Max Pilley, NME

“Dextrous, dynamic and authentic to its core” – Elvis Thirlwell, So Young Magazine

“A punchy, scrappy good time.” – Dave Ruby Howe, triple j

“Why the f*ck would you come to one of their shows? You come for the precise post-punk riffs. You come for the endless energy and enthusiastic lyrics. You stay to watch one of Australia’s most exciting guitar bands in years up close.” – Conor Lochrie, Rolling Stone

“everything you’d hope for… dynamic guitar melodies and unique versatile vocals, conveyed with eagerness and self-confidence, what’s not to like?” – Dennis, Add To Want List

“vibrant indie-rock… highlights exactly why so many have already begun flocking to their sound of late.” – Chris Bound, Mystic Sons

“a concoction of classic UK alt punk vibes from yesteryear, intertwined with post-punk riffs, boundless energy, and lyrics that pack a punch. It’s a homage to their favorite artists, but with a wholly unique sound.” – Happy Mag

Naarm/Melbourne-based new wave/post-punk band RADIO FREE ALICE today unveil their second EP Polyester – stream HERE. Featuring ‘2010’, ‘Johnny’ and new single ‘Spain’ – which is out today with its video – the Polyester EP sees Radio Free Alice explore human relationships in all their forms against a backdrop of expertly crafted post-punk with a wholly unique bend.

Radio Free Alice kicked off their national EP tour with heaving sold out shows in Meanjin/Brisbane and Arakwal Country/Byron Bay over the weekend, and continues this Friday night at the Lansdowne on Gadigal Land in Sydney, before continuing through NSW, VIC, SA, and WA until the start of September, and the band has also just been announced to play Lost Paradise this NYE – full details below.

Polyester was first recorded with Nao Anzai at Soundpark Studios before being finished overseas, with the band recording additional parts in studios, backstage green rooms, tour vans, street corners, hostel bunk beds and train stations around London, Paris, Bristol, Dublin, Nottingham and the Czech Republic while on tour. It was mixed by Ewan Pearson (Warpaint, M83, Joy Division), mastered by Mikey Young (Eddy Current), and recorded live to retain that boundless, organic live energy that Radio Free Alice are making their mark with.

The new single ‘Spain’ – a surprise on the EP in all its slowed-down-swagger – brims with energy, with twangy guitar riffs playing off fuzzed, drawn-out saxophone bringing in a jazzy, kaleidoscopic feel. Vocalist Noah Learmonth shares, “Spain’s about a wealthy, gluttonous pig of a man and his attempt to manipulate a younger, more attractive woman into dating him through money. I suppose it’s about how money is a social currency as well as a material one, and how dark and twisted that is.”

Radio Free Alice’s angular sound feels fresh and immediate – guitars with clean tones and clever notes, melodic bass lines, urgent drumbeats, the occasional sax, and an operatic swagger that has left a string of sold out shows in their wake. In the months since the Polyester EP’s first single ‘2010’ was released in May, Radio Free Alice have been on the road, touring the UK & Europe for the first time playing Rock For People, The Great Escape, Dot To Dot and Live at Leeds festivals, adding to an impressive – and growing – list of dates with The Snuts, Royel Otis, Django Django and Sorry. They’ve been featured on the cover of DORK (UK), named one of Monster Children’s Bright Young Things in 2024 with airplay & support from BBC Music 6, Apple Music 1, Radio X, triple j, FBi Radio, triple j Unearthed Feature Artist, CLASH, Rolling Stone, So Young Magazine and many, many others.

Formed in Eora/Sydney in 2020 before making the move to Naarm/Melbourne, Radio Free Alice – Noah Learmonth (he/him; vocals, guitar), Jules Paradiso (he/him; guitar), Michael Phillips (he/him; bass, saxophone), Lochie Dowd (he/him; drums) and Maayan Barnatan (he/him; synth) – are making their mark with their wildly consistent output and vital live performances. Their debut self-titled EP (2023) was nominated for Best Independent Punk Album or EP at this year’s AIR Awards, with its singles ‘Paris Is Gone’ and ‘Look What You’ve Done’ seeing widespread support from the likes of triple j, CLASH, So Young, PBS FM, Triple R, Unearthed, Rolling Stone and more.
