With the incredible response to their debut album YOUNG, NYC’s Overcoats are releasing a special deluxe edition of the album – out now on Create/Control records.
Speaking of the track, Hana and JJ told NPR – “The song is about disillusionment. It’s about realizing that a fairytale you’ve been believing your whole life is false. It’s about figuring out what to do with that information — how to move forward. We wrote the song in Paris in a tiny little apartment on a night off while on tour in the summer. We wrote it without any instruments, just 2 voices and us drumming with our hands on the desk. When we got back, we finished the track with Arthur Ashin, Joao Gonzalez, and Bram Inscore. This song is the final chapter of YOUNG, to end the journey that has taken us all over North America and Europe. It’s a provocative look at all the transformation we’ve been through, all the difficult changes. We’re excited to see what happens next…Do we believe?
We really wanted to have a hand in the creative for the video and had a strong vision for what it should look like. We wanted to play with the idea of fairy tales, of fantasy and love and surrealism. We knew we wanted a couple fighting, brightly colored smoke, and people to fall in a pool. We wrote up a treatment and brought it to Aaron Vasquez and Sinjun Strom, who co-directed it and were absolutely brilliant. We had help from so many talented friends. It was a joy to make together.“
Despite the huge year, which included sold-out shows worldwide, their captivating Tiny Desk performance, and spots on NPR‘s Favorite New Artist 2017 Poll and Billboard‘s Best Albums of 2017 So Far.
