Fresh off the back of show-stopping, scene-stealing sets at this year’s Reading & Leeds, Parklife, All Points East, YAM! Carnival, Love Saves The Day and a very special performance of “My Family” with BackRoad Gee at Burna Boy’s O2 Arena show, Gambian-via-Coventry star and BBC Sound of 2021 winner Pa Salieu announces the release of his brand new project, Afrikan Rebel. Following Pa’s first single of 2021 (his epic collaboration with slowthai “Glidin’”) as well as receiving an epic four nominations at this year’s GRM Rated Awards, the three-track project is available to stream/purchase HERE. With both Clara Amfo premiering EP track Style & Fashion as her Hottest Record on Radio 1 and DJ Target dropping Shining as his Target Embargo, Afrikan Rebel is already shaping up to be one of 2021’s stand-out projects.
Pa first burst onto the scene in January of 2020 with the hypnotic “Frontline”, one of the biggest UK breakthrough tracks in recent history. Then he followed it up with the eclectic and catchy David Sylvian-sampling “Betty” before dropping not just one of the biggest street tracks of last year with My Family, but also one of the most concise, wide-ranging debut projects in UK rap history with the Ivor Novello-nominated Send Them To Coventry mixtape. Every step of the way, he’s subverted expectations and stayed one step ahead of everyone else, guiding us on a path of a year-long process of experimentation and self-discovery that most artists are lucky to explore over their entire career. Now, Pa’s set to push the envelope even further with brand new project Afrikan Rebel. With production from P2J, Felix Joseph & AOD, the EP is a continuation of his differentiated passion and singular artistic vision and features guest appearances from a who’s who of the most exciting African talent (including Tay Iwar, Zlatan & Obongjayar). Serving as both a homage to his homeland and ancestry as well as an exploration of its sounds and what it means to be an Afrikan Rebel, it’s another profound release from an artist unafraid to stand for something deeper.
Speaking on the project, Pa says “Fundamentally Afrikan Rebel is about being proud and loud about where you come from in. For me that is Africa. Growing up in the UK especially having spent my early years in Gambia wasn’t always easy being black and especially not black African with an African accent, but I have always been taught to be proud of who I am and have never shied away from that fact for better or for worse. I see the word ‘Rebel’ only in the most positive sense. Those figures through history that have fought against the odds to stand up for what they believe in have always intrigued and inspired me. ‘Rebel’ is a mindset that helps keep me strong and I hope I can encourage others to be vocal about their beliefs and stand up for what they feel is right. My Afrikan Rebel series is a movement which I hope can allow me to connect with others with a similar mindset and gives a platform for me to experiment with influences and inspirations from my culture and others from the great continent of Africa.”
Despite previously releasing only one other single this year, Pa Salieu has managed to maintain his cultural presence with a slew of successive career achievements including fronting the massive Beats Flex campaign, show-stealing TV debuts on both Later…with Jools Holland and Jimmy Fallon, being short-listed for the Brits Rising Star, and being nominated for two Ivor Novello Awards. Additionally, he was selected as one of 9 global artists for Soundcloud’s new campaign, collaborated with the likes of Givenchy, Burberry, Dior and Prada and graced the covers of ES Magazine, Dazed, NME, Mixmag and Wonderland. Having collaborated with a wide range of artists including SL, M1llionz, jazz virtuoso Yussef Dayes, black midi’s Morgan Simpson, BackRoad Gee, FKA Twigs, Ghetts and slowthai to name just a few, Pa Salieu is one of the most exciting, dynamic and refreshing artists to come along in recent history.

AMNPLIFY – SW
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
