Today, Sydney punks Party Dozen (Kirsty Tickle and Jonathan Boulet) release their new album Crime In Australia via GRUPO, following the release of the final single ‘Coup De Gronk’, alongside a spectacular new video on that was released on Friday.
Taking notes from classic Ozploitation cinema of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, ‘Coup De Gronk’ builds on Party Dozen’s uniquely Australian aesthetic to match their original sonic offering. Kirsty’s saxophone acts as an instrument of savage coercion as Party Dozen roam the streets of Sydney in one epic shakedown.
‘Coup De Gronk’ sees Party Dozen reuniting with Directors VERSUS (Tanya Babic & Jason Sukadana), with whom they previously collaborated on the apocalyptic ‘Play The Truth (Live at Sydney Opera House)’ and ‘Macca The Mutt ft. Nick Cave’; a video so good it gained a prestigious nomination for Best Video at the J Awards despite Triple J never having played the track. And this one’s even better.
Of the video, the band say: ‘The brief for this clip was Party Dozen Debt Collectors – unhinged and unlikely. We’re not violent people, so in lieu of actual violence we had to be a little more creative with the enforcing. Tanya and Jason captured the perfect mix of delinquency and humour, with clear nods to classic Australian gang films and old crime shows with that hazy smear of motion film.’
Following the Australian shows, Party Dozen will be touring Europe with Amyl & The Sniffers, which should warm them up perfectly for their recently-announced Meredith debut, where they’ll take to The Sup’ in a prime Saturday after dark slot.
