Melbourne alt-country journeyman Patrick Wilson continues his string of stellar single releases in the lead-up to his May debut solo album with the issue of “Medicine”, which is out on April 6th through Cheersquad Records & Tapes.
Known for his ability behind a drum kit playing with a veritable who’s who on Melbourne’s thriving Countrypolitan scene, Wilson expanded on that renown with the 2022 singles “Here Comes Another One” and “Leave My Love”, which both showcased a skilled songsmith in possession of a plaintive, sweet tenor and a knack for hooks of the indelible kind.
On “Medicine” Wilson continues delivering to form, as an urgent acoustic strum unfolds into a driving country infused excursion, punctuated throughout by his crack assembly of fellow journeyman pickers and adding his now signature heart worn hue to this owed to the pitfalls of alcoholic self-medication. Barely clocking in at a touch over 3 mins, Wilson cuts to the chase making “Medicine” direct, immediate and radio ready.

Wilson explains that the track is about “the excuse to exercise our rights to seek solace, it’s the fastest path to enlightenment. Tonics and medicines are markers, signifiers of time passing as we go through it. We expect the instant gratification and healing that comes with our self-diagnosed medicine.”
He expands on the concept by adding that, “everyone has their vice and this song serves as a reflection of that relationship we all have. It’s that sweet treat we give ourselves, the drink at the end of a long day and the immediate satisfaction that comes with those moments of indulgence.”
Patrick Wilson will launch Medicine with his full band at Shotkickers in Thornbury with special guest Charlotte le Lievre on April 23rd.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
