The day has finally arrived for fans of Sydney’s indie rock outfit PLANET (*band name is capitalized) as they release their long-awaited debut album Information Overload, out now via Dew Process.
The 12-track album includes punchy, guitar-infused ‘Resign’, shimmering indie rock ballad ‘Ship Won’t Change’, soaring ‘Need More’ & the nostalgic indie sounds of title track ‘Information Overload’ (above).
Today they have offered up their latest single, ‘Lost My Honesty’, the opening track which tells the story out of the blocks. It’s not long until the lead guitar roars into the mix, buzzing with reverb and opening the floodgates – exposing Information Overload as an album full of shimmering guitars and winding lead lines.

Lead singer Matty says of the album, “Feels like forever but finally our debut album is released into the world! It’s been a long time coming for PLANET to release a debut album, but it was worth the wait. I feel that the collection of songs are a great snapshot of who we are as a band and what direction the music is leading too. Can’t wait to start on album 2…”
The band enlisted legendary producer and engineer Adrian Bushby (New Order, Placebo, U2, Spice Girls), with the intention to record in the UK “We were contacted by Adrian Bushby via our management that he was keen to record an album with us. We were chuffed. The thought of going to his home studio in London sounded amazing as we had our Maybe Someday EP UK tour lined up there already. That dream was swiftly quashed by the thing that erupted on a global scale at the start of 2020. We were still excited to work with him so we had to make it work one way or another.”
Being oceans apart and in the middle of a Sydney lockdown, the recording process involved going back and forth with sessions via Google Drive, recording drums and percussion with Lachlan Mitchell in Parliament Studio’s, a covert operation inside AIM to record electric guitars, bass, grand piano and vocals, plus synths and acoustic guitar in Matty’s home studio in Darlington.
“We sent these over to Adrian and they all came back with such clarity – including the 3 older songs we had only remixed with him. It was after hearing them back properly when we decided we wanted actual strings recorded – violin, viola + cello. Adrian had worked with these guys in Manchester, (Pete Whitfield, Simon Turner) so we got them to play on the majority of songs for the album.
Mike Tucci the mastering wizard, polished them off making them sound fat and Connor Dewhurst was responsible for the great art on all the singles + album cover.”
If the approach to making the record may not have been perfect, how it eventually came together, and the title Information Overload feels like a perfect reflection to the last couple of years of existential and personal confusion we’ve all been experiencing as a society and as individuals.
In celebration of the release of Information Overload they’re hitting the road on an east coast tour kicking it off in Melbourne then heading to Brisbane, and Sydney throughout March. They’re also supporting The Wiggles for their Sydney show at Qudos Bank Arena in late April before they head overseas for a 13-date UK & Ireland Tour.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
