Almost 2 years since their last show show on Australian soil, the 4 boys that were once Sydney locals are back for two intimate shows in Sydney and Melbourne to give us a sneaky preview of their upcoming album Youngblood – scheduled for release in late June. Having spent the last year writing and recording after nearly 5 years on the road, it’ll be interesting to see how the 5SOS boys have matured and grown as artists.

The Metro Theatre erupts in screams as the opening riff of She Looks So Perfect booms through the speakers, following with a more bass driven track Girls Talk Boys had the sold out crowd of 1350 all having a boogie. Keeping with the throwback tracks, next we had my personal favourite Disconnected. Welcoming us to the show, Luke jokes about how the last time they played The Metro there was only 15 people.
Moving Along is our first unreleased song of the night and it’s suddenly 2013 again when we all had to learn the lyrics from live recordings.

Valentine, another unreleased track shows us a completely different side to what we knew of 5 Seconds Of Summer but unsurprisingly the audience were still able to sing back every word.
As Michael plays the opening notes of Amnesia, Calum takes the time to tell us how good it is to be home and thanks us for being so patient for new music. Amnesia live has always been a song that blows me away, especially when the crowd takes over and sings the first verse for Calum.
Pointing out that it’s his mums birthday, Ashton reminds us that he missed us and how he’s never been more proud of an album. Following with Talk Fast a song that I believe will be a stand out track once the album is finally released.
Jet Black Heart had the crowd screaming the chorus at the top of their lungs, before the night came to an end all to soon as the boys closed the show with Want You Back.

I think it’s safe to say if the rest of the album is like what we heard tonight we’re certainly in for a treat. All 4 boys have expressed over and over how proud they are of Youngblood, Michael even going as far to say “this new album feels like a completely new band.” So after tonight it’s not surprising to I will be counting down the days till Youngbloods‘ release.
