“Her delivery drips with personality and presence”

Sydney-based singer/songwriter Abbey Lane explodes onto the indie/pop scene with this infectious bop. “Hypnotised” was produced by Jackson Barclay, who has worked with Vera Blue, one of Lane’s biggest musical inspirations. This is her debut single, and it promises to be the start of quite a discography.

As the song begins, we are immediately drawn in by Lane’s gorgeous vocals and a lone synth playing soft block chords. Her delivery drips with personality and presence, and the sparse instrumentation really allows her talent to shine. Her warm, clear tone grabs the listener’s attention and, despite her tender age of 22, possess an air of maturity and class that is simultaneously refreshing and intriguing. A hint of her youth still remains, and it is this duality in her style that makes Lane so interesting as an artist.

“it truly is a glorious musical journey to behold”

The song develops quickly, throwing in an intricate trap-inspired beat and more synth layers to fill out the track. Lane belts out the pre-chorus to complete the steady build, showing off her vocal agility with a catchy riff to take us into the chorus. “I started writing Hypnotised since I really wanted to write a song with an anti-chorus, so the rest of the song was created around that idea.” The instrumentation drops out, leaving us with a simply unforgettable melody that you’ll be humming for days.

“Hypnotised” keeps the listener guessing thanks to its highly dynamic nature. It definitely peaks in the final chorus, where all the synths and beats come in at once. Coupled with Lane’s layered vocals and powerful delivery, it truly is a glorious musical journey to behold. Her decade of songwriting and performance experience is on full display in this expertly-crafted homage to the Australian indie/pop scene. Whether it sounds like your thing or not, this gem is well worth your time based on its quality alone. “You change my limits, you’re rewiring my mind,” and Abbey Lane sculpted her sound in one genius track.

“Hypnotised” is available on all platforms now.
