How would you describe your journey in the music industry so far, and where do you want to go from here with your music?

My journey to date has been fantastic. I have vigorously pursued any & all opportunities as an Artist. I’ve never confined myself to a single genre of performance, otherwise it’d be impossible to grow & discover who you really are. Where do I want to go from here? –More of the same, I’m having a ball!

.

When did you know you wanted to make music, and perform as your career?

I grew up in a loud fiery Gospel music environment & had a fascination with drums & rhythmic music from day 1. I was playing drums professionally at age 12.

.

Who have been your musical influences or artists you have admired growing up?

Growing up, we had one radio station in the town, and it played everything from Country to Jazz & everything in between. I loved everybody! -Dean Martin, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Sam Cook, Otis Redding & Tony Joe White to name just some.

.

Are there any artists or musicians that you have been so impacted by that it changed your view on life or mentality toward music?

Even as a kid, I seemed to recognise singers that sang about their broken heart over lost love. I liked the honesty of men baring their soul & I could hear it in their voice. I think it’s why I loved those Soul singers like Otis. I also loved the cry in Glen Campbell’s voice, and Elvis’ angst & drama in his performances on some of his epic songs really moved me.

.

How would you describe your sound, and why is it unique from other artist’s sound?

My influences are so many, that I have unwittingly taken a tiny piece of all those artists I love & mixed it in with my own approach to make up who I am. I learned a long time ago to just be yourself (unless it’s a tribute show).

.

What can fans expect from you at THE FRINGE festival 2018?

My show this year is a fabulous good-time show that’s totally about entertainment. Sensational music from A-list musicians & hilarious old-school humour. Seriously, if you leave this show feeling dissatisfied, I reckon you’re a pretty hard person to please!

.

What are your goals for 2018 with your music career?

There are so many ideas I still have to pursue! There’s so many fine players I wish to collaborate with & keep developing these ideas that honestly prevent me from sleeping at night!

.

If you weren’t working in the music industry, what else do you think you would be doing with your life right now?

It would still be in the creative field. I’m a writer & have produced documentaries etc. I love radio & have done it for years. I have no doubt that radio is still in my future. There’s an art to good radio. All you have is your voice; no body language or facial expressions to put across what you’re all about.

.

What’s one song fans might be surprised you really like?

Nessun Dorma by Andrea Bocelli continues to give me tears, yet I also totally love Metallica’s Enter the Sandman! Go figure!

.

What will you be doing with your career the rest of the year post THE FRINGE?

Continuing to work hard at doing my performances. I love doing smaller shows in regional towns & areas & there’ll be plenty more of those.

.

Lastly, just for fun – If you had to eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

Mexican food! I’m talking real-deal authentic. I need to trace my ancestry because I’m convinced that I was actually born as Juan Fernando Lopez or something similar!
