KUREN took the time to chat with AMNplify interviewer Brianna Denmeade about his NEW MUSIC and more!

.

How would you describe your journey in the music industry so far, and where do you want to go from here with your music?

Since starting to make beats, to now playing on massive stages to a sea of people, the journey has given me the opportunity to grow and take my music to the next level.  From the beginning, it was a slow process, but I am now learning and soaking up so much knowledge and skills at a rapid pace.

From here, I just want to create. I want to make more records, be a part of other artists’ records and kind of sit in the background and work on masterpieces. I also want to get back into working on films again. Eventually crossing music and film over in one.

When did you know you wanted to make music and perform as your career?

The second I heard the song ‘We Were In Love’ by Ta-Ku. I had been a fan of his music for a long time and I was about 16. I still had no idea what I wanted to do. I was skilled at filmmaking, graphic design and music. But nothing pushed my emotions and gave me the feeling that his music did. I was like, ‘I wanna do that’.

Who have been your musical influences or artists you have admired growing up?

Obviously back to Ta-Ku being number 1. But also lots of artists from opposite ends of the spectrum as well. People like Oasis, Kurt Cobain, Elvis, Drake, Lido, Flume. I’m also really big on jazz.

Are there any artist’s or musicians that you have been so impacted by that it changed your view on life or mentality toward music?

Kendrick Lamar without a doubt. I recently watched an hour-long interview with him and it really made me think on a different level. The way he talked about his music and then related it to life was amazing. The way he spoke about his craft, lyrics and workflow were truly inspirational. He is an amazing human and I know if I sat down with him for about 10 minutes, I would learn things that would benefit me in years to come. And I’m ready. HMU K dot.

How would you describe your sound, and why is it unique from other artist’s sound?

I can sit here and dance around the fact that my music is made up of tons of different sounds from all these sub-genres and blah blah, but it’s electronic. My music is electronic music.

What makes it different from others is the way I go about conveying a story using sounds and making sounds to pull the listener’s emotions, just like Ta-Ku did to me. I make what I feel. I don’t make what’s cool or hot.

What can fans expect as far as upcoming tours, or music?

I have been working on something very special for some time now. This song is something I am really proud of and worked day and night to make it happen. I am also almost at completion with my first album set to drop later this year.

No plans for a tour yet, but I’m down to make something happen.

What are your goals for 2018 with your music career?

I like to keep my real personal/career goals to myself but I will say this year I hope to travel overseas and play shows. Seeing more of the world will then have an impact on my music for sure.

There are so much more but they will happen soon.

If you weren’t working in the music industry, what else do you think you would be doing with your life right now?

I would either be a filmmaker or graphic designer. I was well on my way to doing this before music stepped in. I was only 15-16, but I was really good at it.

What’s one song fans might be surprised you really like?

For me, it’s ‘Hand Covers Bruise’, Reprise by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. This is actually part of the soundtrack for the movie ‘The Social Network’. It’s one of my favourite pieces ever. And definitely something I want to start pursuing myself.

Do you have one performance that stands out so far as being your favourite, or most memorable?

Yes. The Plot 2017 in Parramatta Park. I was a bit worried about not getting much of a crowd as most of the line-up were bands. But I went on and started playing – it was amazing. I had never seen a sea of people jump so much at my show.

Towards the end of my set I brought out a good friend of mine, Dylan Frost who is the lead singer of the band Sticky Fingers. Here’s the funny thing. When you’re playing on a stage, all you’re focused on is playing. Getting every drum fill at the right time, hitting the right chords on a piano and pitching the right notes when you’re singing.

When Dylan came on, it was the first time I could really embrace what I was doing. Standing there and watching him sing to the crowd and also watching the crowd react was something money cannot buy. It made my year I think.

Lastly, just for fun – If you had to eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

BBQ Shapes, 100%.
