How would you describe your journey in the music industry so far, and where do you want to go from here with your music?
I’ve always loved music and singing ever since i could say my first word but i only really started in the music industry about 3 years ago and i’ve already met so many amazing people, it’s such a nice community to be apart of! I just want to keep going the way i am and i think i’ll be happy wherever i end up, i’m only 18 and i’m already doing what i love, I can’t complain!

.

When did you know you wanted to make music, and perform as your career?
I’ve always loved music, i grew up all around it! But i think i knew i wanted to do it as a career when i moved to Mackay in 2010, thats when i started playing in front of crowds and knew i loved it!

.

Who have been your musical influences or artists you have admired growing up?
I think my influences change all of the time, i take bits and pieces from different people and bands! But i think an Australian songwriter called Melody Pool is really who helped me with writing lyrics when i was younger!

.

Are there any artists or musicians that you have been so impacted by that it changed your view on life or mentality toward music?
Yeah i guess so! i watched the new Lady Gaga documentary on Netflix a couple of months ago and it made me realise how much hard work and mental strength you need to succeed in this industry. I wasn’t a huge fan of her before i watched the doco, but now i admire her so so much and she gave me a whole other view on the mental and physical strengths you need to keep going!

.

How would you describe your sound, and why is it unique from other artist’s sound?
This is always the hardest question anyone asks haha, i’d say its indie-pop-rock-folk, and i think my voice makes my sound very recognisable!

.

.

What can fans expect as far as upcoming tours, or music after SUNSET SERIES in Feb?
Lots of new songs, new sets and a good time! An album tour is in the works too!

.

What are your goals for 2018 with your music career?
I just hope my album does well and to get on a few bigger festivals like Splendour is a big one!

.

If you weren’t working in the music industry, what else do you think you would be doing with your life right now?
I honestly think i’d be doing something like interior designing or maybe working in a prison, i’ve been watching to much netflix haha!

.

What’s one song fans might be surprised you really like?
I love City Club by The Growlers! My guitarist introduced me to them and i’m a huge fan!

.

Do you have one performance that stands out so far as being your favourite, or most memorable?
State of Origin game 1 last year!

.

Lastly, just for fun – If you had to eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Hmmm probably Avo on toast with a balsamic glaze mm mm

BIO

Tia Gostelow wrote “State Of Art” in 2015 and was only 16 years old. The song caught the attention of Konstantin Kersting (The Belligerents) and they recorded it together at Airlock Studios in Brisbane. “State Of Art” caught Triple J’s attention wining their 2016 Indigenous Initiative and a place in their Triple J Unearthed High 2016 Top 5.

Things started moving fast with Tia being invited to officially showcase at BIGSOUND 2016. This turned out to be her first ever gig with her band. It also coincided with the release of her second single “Vague Utopia” which was also added to high rotation on Triple J. Both songs mine the sonic vein of classic Australian indie song writing traditions.

The connection with her band mates proved fruitful and saw them support the likes of Frightened Rabbit, Husky and Bernard Fanning. Tia’s team also solidified with her signing with US label Anti Fragile, Australian boutique booking agent Collective Artists and Native Tongue Publishing.

2017 was Tia’s first year out of school and kicked off with new single “That’s What You Get” changing pace with an upbeat sense of fun and which just as much love as previous releases. Awards followed with 6 nominations for the 2017 Queensland Music Awards, including 2 wins, in Schools and Folk Singer/Songwriter categories.

Personally 2017 was huge for Tia with her turning 18 and traveling OS for the first time getting her mind blown by Europe. Musically her most recent single “Hunger” is her most successful to date making the Top 10 most played on Triple J and hitting the 500,000 steams on Spotify.

This year is certainly game on with Tia and her band re connecting with Konstantin at Airlock studios for the final recording session for her debut album due for release on her own label (Lovely Records) in June. She is also leaving her home and hometown of Mackay to join the music community of Brisbane.
