Hailing from the cityscapes of Sydney in Australia, Rap/EDM/Hip-Hop recording artist & music producer, Bigg, began hitting the ground running in the music realm since 2006, and has been building an insatiably impressive music career since that time. As a Vietnamese producer, Bigg was born in Ha Noi; a place where Rap & Hip Hop is scarcely known. But at the age of 10 when his father played an Eminem CD in the car, the young aspiring artist was hooked and eventually began researching more into the perspective genre. At age 12, determined to find his musical niche, Bigg began teaching himself the art of music production in an effort to make beats and become a creator of the music he had come to know and love. Simultaneously, the aspiring young producer also began learning the English language through lyrical content from some of his favorite artists and songs through a translation formula.

Since then, Bigg has been making beats over the last 11 years and honed his craft through many influences that surrounded him. He has created over 1,000 beat projects on his hard drive over this time period and has no intention of quitting anytime soon. With big dreams on the horizon for Bigg, the determined and hardworking Artist and Producer recent released his debut Album All Out, which is comprised of over 20 tracks all self-produced/engineered/mixed and mastered.

After getting the opportunity to review the new release album, Amnplify writer Brianna Denmeade got the chance to have a chat with BIGG to learn more about him as an artist and how he cultivated his incredible sound…

.

Hey BIGG, I recently reviewed your album so it is nice to chat. Can you tell readers a bit about your album All Out?

About 3 years ago, after I finished my business degree, I felt like I have lost track of where I was going in life, so with no clear direction, I decided to quit my job and just go all out with my music. Through the project, I wanted to show the world what I can do, that’s why I decided if everyone else’s albums are 15-track long, mine is going to be 26.

.

You are born Vietnamese but have grown up in Sydney, Australia. How do you think your mixed background has influenced your sound?

I think my background really opened me up to many different types of music. Back at home, my grandparents were a big fan of old French and Russian music, my dad loves Rock N’ Roll and Disco while my mom loves Jazz and Pop, then at school my mates were listening to a lot of Punk, Hip Hop and EDM, so I think my music taste is as mixed as my background. I can be listening to The Beatles in the morning, Boney M in the afternoon and Eminem in the evening.

.

How long have you been creating music?

When I was 10, my dad wanted me to learn at least one instrument (as every Asian parent does) so I decided to learn Piano. But after a few months, I was so bored with playing other people’s song over and over again, I started to make my own. Then I was 12, my dad got me a computer which allowed me to make my first beat and I didn’t stop since then. I’m 23 now, so I guess I’ve been making music for the past 13 years.

.

What made you realise you wanted to pursue a career in the music industry?

After I learned how to make beats and record on the computer, I was like “Great! Now I just need lyrics and I’ll have a song!”, soon after when I was 13 I realised that music is what gives meaning to my existence on this planet.

.

All Out is amazing, congrats! It crosses between RnB, Hip-Hop, Rap and Electronic sounds, so eclectic. What or who have been your musical influences’ growing up?

Thank you so much! I think my musical influences come from everywhere, but I can say the artists that I listened to the most growing up are: Eminem, Kanye West, Dru Hill, The Beatles and Boney M, but I also can’t forget all those Smokie songs my dad singing in the car while driving me to school.

.

English is your second language, when did you decide to learn?

Growing up, my dad taught me that languages are the best tools to have in life, plus all of my idols were singing and rapping in English anyway so it has always been a part of my daily life.

.

How long was it before you felt comfortable rapping in English?

Funny enough I started rapping and writing in English because all of the artists I listened to were rapping in English so I just felt really comfortable doing it. After a while, I started trying to rap in Vietnamese too, but it felt unnatural to me for some odd reason.

.

With the release of All Out what is your plan for the rest of 2018?

I have been working and have finished my next album. It’s very different from All Out, so right now I’m trying to figure out a plan for the release. Hopefully, I’ll figure it out soon so the album can be released early next year and I can drop a few singles in the last quarter of 2018!

.

If readers want to catch you live or stream your music where is all that info?

The best way to keep updated with my journey is through my Facebook and Instagram, they are where I’m most active and you can easily find all of that good stuff posted on my pages.

.

If you had the opportunity to work with any music legend for a day who would you choose and why?

I think I said it best in the track Late Night, Red Wine & Cigarette, I dream to be in the studio with Kanye West while Eminem is on the mic and Dr. Dre on the MPC, so if I can be in the same room with any of them, I think I would just sit there and cry first before I can do anything.

.

How would you describe your sound in one sentence?

I’ve always found a question like this so difficult to answer, but I guess you can say my music sounds like my personality – energetic, weirdly funny and sometimes philosophical.

.

Can you see yourself ever not making music?

No. Though, I have thoughts about being a professional motorcycle racer every now and then but at the end of the day, I always find myself in the studio making music.

.

If you had to choose to be confined to create music within the realms of ONE GENRE for the rest of your life, what genre do YOU choose?

I would choose Hip-Hop, because the way that I see it, any other genre can be transformed into Hip- Hop, and that’s the best thing with this genre.
