“Please forgive me now, give me a second chance. I promise I’ll go back to church I swear”.
Amory Beech, the nom de plume for James Walker, has with “Driver Roulette” released a touching and introspective song that is deeply personal yet feels incredibly relatable.
Beech, who has a lot of history in the entertainment industry, was a multiple award-winning filmmaker who for some years been working on several television productions in Canada. Moving back home to concentrate on his music, Beech has unveiled a thoughtful song with “Driver Roulette”. His previous expertise has quietly seeped into the approach he takes with his music as “Driver Roulette” embraces a cinematic airy vibe.

The song is inspired by Amory Beech’s struggle to reconcile his feelings of Catholic guilt and his sexuality and the inevitable impact that had on his mental health. The song starts almost like a prayer or plea as Beech asks for absolution “Please forgive me now, give me a second chance. I promise I’ll go back to church I swear”. It begins as a whisper with an atmospheric synth track that invites the listener to walk alongside Beech and hear his story. “Driver Roulette” then incrementally builds until it reaches an apex where it unfurls with a a palette of soft-hued colour and a sense of hope.
The hook of the song came to be from Amory Beech’s contrasting experiences in Sydney at World Youth Day, with the first being a sadly alienating experience however the second time Amory Beech was able to arrive at a place to feel acceptance and love. If Amory Beech’s lyrics portray a sense of longing the production of “Driver Roulette” is the dream of which he is moving towards. Being a filmmaker Amory Beech is well versed in telling stories and with “Driver Roulette”, he does so using all these sonic brushstrokes to paint a rich scene.
‘Driver Roulette’ will be in Digital Stores on the 11th of June
