Have you always wanted to be an artist? When did you get the songwriting bug?
I’ve always been a writer first. I’ve written fantasy novels for fun since I was about seven years old. Storytelling has always been my way of making sense of the world. I used to write long prose as a way to process everything I couldn’t articulate—especially as a teenager. I often felt completely zoned out or numb—like I wasn’t in my body, or wasn’t in control. But when I was writing, I felt free. I’d dissociate so deeply that I often couldn’t even remember what I’d written until I read it back. But somehow, through that, my thoughts and feelings became something I could hold, digest, and understand.
That process eventually turned into songwriting. I still write lyrics as massive blocks of prose and then pull out the lines that ache the loudest. Writing—whether novels or songs—has always been my lifeline. It still is. And I’ve always known I was meant to be an artist. I told people at three years old that I was going to be on stage one day—and I meant it. There’s never been another option for me.

Briefly describe your journey to date.
I’m an Aboriginal and LGBTQ+ artist, mental health advocate, and psychology student. I grew up between grief and grit—lost my mum at 11, my dad was incarcerated, and music became my lifeline. I’ve since headlined a national tour, released internationally charting music, and created Azure’s Aviary—a sold-out mental health and music event that changed everything.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think fans resonate with your music?
It’s theatrical alt-pop with an emotional gut-punch—somewhere between Avril Lavigne, Billie Eilish, and Ethel Cain. There’s a sense of drama to everything I do, but also this undercurrent of humour, self-awareness, and camp. I think fans connect because the songs are brutally honest. They’re confessionals dressed as anthems—about survival, softness, mental illness, and refusing to disappear. I don’t pretend to be perfect. I let it be messy and cinematic and a little bit feral. And I think that gives people permission to feel seen.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
So many. Mayday Parade has been my favourite band for most of my life—A Lesson in Romantics changed my little 11-year-old world, and it’s still my favourite album ever. Later on, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? by Billie Eilish felt like the second coming of that—another moment where I felt completely seen and understood. I’m a huge, huge, huge Taylor Swift fan. Her lyricism, storytelling, and sheer brilliance inspire me every single day. I also draw a lot from Pierce the Veil, Nessa Barrett, Marianas Trench, and Chase Atlantic—artists who lean into emotional extremes, theatricality, and vulnerability. I’malways inspired by musicians who aren’t afraid to feel too much, say too much, and turn that into something beautiful and loud and alive.

Your latest single ‘Sleep Through Dinner’ has just been released! What’s it all about? Describe its origin and evolution.
Sleep Through Dinner is about the quiet violence of an eating disorder. It’s written from the perspective of a version of myself I’ve left behind—but still love. I wanted it to feel like a lullaby and a scream. It began as a journal entry, and grew into something theatrical and theatrical and bold, like lighting a match in a dark room. It’s not a pity song—it’s a survival one.

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
Yes! My debut EP Eat Your Heart Out is coming later this year. It’s theatrical, emo, camp, and absolutely heartbreaking—it’s the most honest I’ve ever been. Every track pulls apart a different piece of identity, recovery, love, and loss. It feels like ripping open a diary and setting it to music. I wanted it to sound like the inside of my head on fire, and I think it does.

What are the signature tracks on the album, and which are your favorites to play live?
Oh jeez—I don’t even know how to pick. Each track feels like a different wound, a different version of me. I think I’m the most excited for people to hear Monster. Live, it feels like an exorcism. Sleep Through Dinner will always hold a special place for me because of how personal it is, but Monster is the one where I fully let go.

What tours and events are coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I’m planning to expand Azure’s Aviary into an ongoing series—live music meets recovery storytelling and community connection. It started as a one-off, but the response was overwhelming, and it’s clear there’s a need for safe, creative, emotionally honest spaces like that. I’m also performing at some upcoming headline shows and music festival spaces, and we’re working on something really big for the EP release. We’re also in early talks to do another headline tour, which is so exciting. I’m already dreaming up the visuals and setlist. Expect drama, tears, and eyeliner.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Honestly? Probably Mayday Parade, because 11-year-old me would lose her mind and sob through the entire set. Or Taylor Swift, because her songwriting genuinely shaped my brain chemistry—sharing a stage with her would be surreal. And I’d love to perform something weird, theatrical, and unapologetically camp with Freddie Mercury. Just full drama, sequins, and emotion. That kind of bold, genre-bending performance energy is exactly what I live for.

What are your long-term aspirations as a music artist and how are you progressing towards them?
I want to build a career that lets me be both vulnerable and powerful—to blend pop spectacle with emotional honesty and mental health advocacy. Every release, every show, and every conversation brings me closer to that vision.
But honestly? I want it all. I want to tour internationally, publish fantasy novels, star in a professional musical, write music for a coming-of-age film like Twilight, and earn a doctorate in clinical psychology—all at once. I know it sounds unhinged, but it’s the only future I’ve ever seen for myself. So… stay tuned.

With that in mind, what piece of advice would you give to an artist starting out?
You don’t have to be palatable to be powerful. Let your weirdness breathe. Let your wounds breathe. The world needs more artists who mean it.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
The alchemy—watching pain turn into connection, and shame into celebration. There’s nothing like it. I was born to do this. Performing feels like coming home to myself in front of other people. The career highlight so far has been Azure’s Aviary—a sold-out room, a song about survival, and this overwhelming sense that everyone there understood. That night changed something in me.

Quickfire Questions:
Craziest thing you’ve ever done? I was undiagnosed (and until recently, unmedicated) bipolar II for most of my life… so let’s just say I’ve done a lot of wild things. Hard to pick just one.
Topic you can talk about for hours? Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, My Dad Wrote a Porno, and my cats. I contain multitudes.
Thing you like most about yourself? My capacity to learn, grow, and achieve—even when the odds say I shouldn’t.

Finally, let’s find out what your current (or all-time) favourites are:
Album – A Lesson in Romantics by Mayday Parade and When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? by Billie Eilish
Artist – FUUUUUCKKKKKKKKKKK it has to be Taylor Swift.
Movie – The Danish Girl or Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Place to visit – Anywhere with dense forest, murky skies, vintage stores, and old bookstores
Venue to play – A cathedral or abandoned theatre — something dramatic with good reverb and ghosts
Food – Pasta with unlimited cheese (vodka sauce preferred but I’ll accept Cacio e Pepe, ragu, bolognese, boscaiola, lasagna, honestly everything), caprese salad, and custard tarts
Drink – Red wine
Person in History – My ma. Always.
Tattoo – I have “history has its eyes on you” on my forearm. It’s from one of my favourite musicals, Hamilton, but more than that, it’s a daily reminder that everything I do matters. One day I’ll have children—or I’ll influence someone else’s—and I want them to be proud of the choices I made. That’s how I try to live: for the kind of legacy I’d want to leave behind.
