On Sunday the 14th Of April, the English electronic music duo, Basement Jaxx, returned to Sydney for a matinee and evening show with The Metropolitan Orchestra. Held at our very own landmark, The Sydney Opera House, the was show not to be missed. The setlist consisted of some of their most popular hits ‘Do Your Thing’ and ‘Romeo’. An evening full of breathtaking musical talent, extremely polished and faultless instrumentals, and some insane vocals that left the entire audience with goosebumps.
Opening the matinee show at 3pm was The Metropolitan Orchestra as Basement Jaxx entered the stage. From the strings, mesmerising harp, brass and woodwind to the insane operatic vocalists. This orchestra left the audience feeling elated and the show had only just begun. Accompanied by a huge applause, Basement Jaxx made their way onto the stage to join the orchestra. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better than this, the vocalists entered the stage in dazzling and striking costumes to perform ‘My Turn’. The contrast of electronic music with the orchestral sound was exhilarating.

The performance featured numerous guest dancers and artists including Australia’s very own, William Barton who played the didgeridoo leaving the entire Opera House speechless. ‘Where’s Your Head At’ was performed with a children’s choir and harpsichord captivating the audience with a more eerie approach to the song.
With everyone up on their feet, Basement Jaxx and TMO performed ‘Do Your Thing‘, a fan favourite of course! Colourful lights, costumes and fantastic vibes. This performance was a highlight of the evening and concluded the show with a bang.
Basement Jaxx and The Metropolitan Orchestra certainly put on a show like no other. From incredible instrumentals to ethereal costumes, the uniqueness and standard was out of this world. If you ever get the chance to see this group live, do it without hesitation!
