“A mixture of angry and heartfelt lyrics,
thrashing guitars you can mosh to
and highs and lows in all the right doses.”

I LOVE THIS.

Between You And Me are achieving everything that is great about pop-punk.

After signing to Hopeless Records in 2017, Between You And Me fans have been eagerly awaiting an official album release, and they have not been disappointed. Somehow, it’s already been a month since debut album ‘Everything Is Temporary’ was released, and as usual, the boys have failed to disappoint. Opening with ‘Twice Shy’, first listeners are greeted with a perfect example of what modern pop-punk is doing, with a beautiful typical pop-punk block intro, strong vocals, and upbeat, head-bang-approving drums and guitar.

It seems the pop-punk genre is fast becoming more and more appreciated by public masses, and it’s surely due to bands like Between You And Me creating more consumable – yet just as heartfelt and connective – material for their audiences. I firmly believe there cannot be a twenty-first-century person alive who hasn’t appreciated at least one song from the various pop-punk/rock world, and for good reason.

Everything Is Temporary holds songs with strong nostalgia and hopeful future-feelings, just as to be expected of the title. Although we as individuals must admit that ‘everything is temporary’, that doesn’t make our time spent any less valuable, and this album goes through exactly that. The title track ‘Everything Is Temporary’ includes lines like
‘these are the days I’ll be telling my kids. I hope to leave a footprint behind that won’t erase with time’, and just like so many other BYAM tunes, runs over the oh-so-real midnight thoughts and feelings that so many of us, as mortal humans, go through.

My personal favourites would have to be ‘Twice Shy– “a fun, bouncy song telling all our shit friends to get a grip and to stop wasting our time”, ‘Move On’ – a self-reflective post-breakup recovery tune -, and ‘Broken’ – in which front-man Jake Wilson
‘sings about his relationship with his ex-girlfriend. While there are three songs in the album dedicated to her, this one is specifically an apology for all the things he did wrong. Between that, he also touches on the memories they shared and the struggles he had throughout their relationship’.

Everything in the production, writing, and composition of this album, shows for an incredibly strong debut for the boys. Having worked with and watched these boys develop from initial small shows and supporting their big-brother acts, from local band Stuck Out, to Sydney based strongholds Tonight Alive, to international pro’s Neck Deep (UK), it’s easy to see the band heading on to do crazy awesome things.
