Off the back of his previous releases, “Red Dirt Country” and “Some Things Never Die”, Western Australian singer/songwriter Billy Woodley returns with a cracker of a single, the spirited song “If It Isn’t So Clear”. A raucous song that shows off Woodley’s talent for storytelling and keeping the fires of honest pub rock burning.
A self-taught graduate of Tamworth’s Academy of Country Music, the songwriter remains close to his roots of being a boy from the country (growing up in Port Hedland) and immersing himself in the classic rock of artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s John Fogarty. Those influences inform Woodley’s musical style and are much apparent in his new bluesy rock single, “If It Isn’t So Clear”. The production is earthy, rugged and a little unrefined which plays solidly into giving off a pub-rock vibe. The song takes place, where else, in a pub with the inspiration coming from the interplay of himself and another female patron who may or may not be trying to chat him up and get into his good graces. The lyrics are tongue-in-cheek and Woodley’s sentiments are played off with dry humour with a big dose of rock.

Having played at several festivals including Banuru Festival, Nannup Music Festival and Hidden Treasures Festival “If It Isn’t So Clear” would be the perfect addition to a rousing set delivered to the masses. There is an unpretentiousness in Woodley’s performance with his vocals not being textbook perfect, yet that is all part of the charm. He sings with a gruffness and strain that bleeds with authenticity, and for such a brash song Woodley pulls it all together solidly.
“If It Isn’t So Clear” works on a lot of levels showing that Woodley has a knack for painting a picture with a melody and his personable tales. The song comes out on Friday, 24th September and marks a fine way to shake off winter for the new season.
‘If It Isn’t So Clear’ will be in Digital Stores on the 24th September
