If an image or video is powerful enough, it will last with you for days; for weeks; for months. Add in an equally powerful soundtrack and it can transform into something so evocative that it stirs up a storm of many different emotions and takes all; ’til all can’t breathe.

This is exactly what the directors Snorri Bros have gone and done for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club‘s new video for Carried From The Start from their latest album, Wrong Creatures.

It starts off with a close up of the protagonist (Julien Crane) lying in the dirt and almost lifeless, before being discovered by a Native (Yaotl Mazahua) who drags Crane through the desert to get him to a safer place with Mazahua’s voice dubbed over and asking the spirits for assistance in healing Crane.

We then get rather disjointed but strangely coherent flashbacks that shows Crane’s journey that lead him to be alone with no water or food in the desert and back to the present where he is sitting by the fire with Mazahua. Crane, Courtlyn Cannan and Mazahuna were the perfect choice for this as they carry you on this hypnotic ride through the madness that is love and obsession.

Carried From The Start on its own is a beautiful, sad, startlingly uplifting song which highlights the exceptional talents of Robert Levon Been, Peter Hayes and Leah Shapiro but with this striking clip; the song is transcended beyond belief.

There are times when words are enough to describe how something makes you feel. Then there are those times like these where you just need to sit back, watch the video and let the music wash over you as it takes you on its dark journey.
