Sydney was the next stop for the Melbourne lads British India on their “Midnight Homie” tour. Less than a year since the boys released their latest album, “Forgetting The Future”, they’ve had some serious Triple J plays and a lot of sold-out shows. Hosted last Saturday night by Sydney’s iconic Oxford Art Factory, we had an evening of classic (but Brit-inspired) Aussie rock.

They had two support acts for the evening. The first being “The Vioriots”, a group of lads based out of Sydney, who has been doing the loops on the Sydney circuit pretty hard for the last 6 months.  I’ve heard these guys a few months back on Triple J Unearthed so I was pretty eager to see what they had up for us that evening. Key songs for the evening was their latest single ‘Regret’ and my personal favourite “Long Way Down’. If I had to describe these guys I would say that have some pretty vintage Arctic Monkey undertones going on. Would really recommend that you drop along to one of their shows.

Next up on the bill were Melbourne indie rockers DIET, who brought so much energy, being the perfect build up for the main act. A few personal faves for me included “Danny Boy”, which was such a sweet contrast to the rest of their songs, had a much more chilled out vibe going on, and my other, “Clothes Off” which reminded me a lot of The Strokes. The boys got saved mid set as well by Will from British India, when their lead singer accidently broke a guitar string mid song.

Then finally, brings us to the stars of the evening, who very much kept us waiting…. But boy did they blow us away with a sonic 1.5 hour set. Opening up with “Precious”, I managed to spill all of both my beers in my hands, but it was totally worth it. Having seen the boys play a few times before at festivals, it was nice to see them at a more intimate gig. My personal favourites included “Suddenly” and “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. Of course, the boys had some pretty good banter between songs, having being veterans on the Aussie music scene. Without a doubt they are still one of my all time favourite live bands, they always live up to my expectations.
