Sunday night and everybody was still down to party after a packed weekend in Adelaide. If you chose to end the weekend by attending Buckcherry’s show at Lion Arts, then you were in for a treat. Joined by cult favourites Fozzy, Buckcherry put on a sleazy, in the best kind of way, rock ‘n’ roll party to a packed Adelaide audience.
Starting up proceedings was the local rocker’s Emergency Rule. Fresh off their support to Swedish rockers Hardcore Superstar, Emergency Rule delivered their brand of driving rock. Everything about this band is absolute class in the way they perform, but they also deliver a monster sound. From singer Doug Clark’s incredible vocals to Travis Dragani’s thumping drums, the band set the tone perfectly for a night of good old-fashioned heavy rock. The guitarists Callum Wegener and Chris G really nail their sound with riffs and solos that scratch your ear just right. Keep your eye on this band because they have all the elements to make it big.

By the time Fozzy hit the stage, the Lion Arts Factory was full. With many people in the audience donning Fozzy shirts from throughout the two decades the band has been touring, it was easy to see they were a crowd favourite. Powering through a set from tracks across their albums such as One Crazed Anarchist, I Still Burn and Enemy– the crowd was singing their hearts out. Between songs, Fozzy chants rang through and the love between the band and the audience was truly felt. Vocalist Chris Jericho always has the demeanour onstage that he would not want to be anywhere else, and this show was nothing different. While there is no denying that Jericho’s star power is part of the reason Fozzy fans go crazy, it cannot be denied that guitarist Rich Ward takes over the stage in his own right- putting on a hell of a show. Ultimately, their set was heavy, fun and one big party for those in attendance. Finishing off with the fan favourite Judas and a cover of ACDC’s Dirty Deeds as a homage to Australian music, as much as Fozzy says they love Australia– it seems the love is absolutely requited.
Following up on the reception that Fozzy got was always going to be a challenge, but there is a reason Buckcherry’s name was at the top of the bill. In a sea of Crazy Bitch t-shirts and beers being poured, Adelaide came out to party and Buckcherry really took on the mission to keep it going. Their signature style of LA rock ‘n’ roll came in strong, turning the Lion Arts Factory into something resembling The Rainbow. Frontman Josh Todd delivers what can only truly be described as rockstar charisma. With intense but sultry vocals and a seasoned stage presence, Josh Todd is a force to be reckoned with. The band kicked off fast and furious and showed no sign of slowing down. Guitarists Stevie D and Billy Rowe put on an absolute clinic while bass player Kelly LeMieux was almost a show stealer, the only thing more unstoppable was the absolute beast behind the kit, Francis Ruiz. Smashing out a set list that included crowd favourites Crazy Bitch, Lit Up and of course, a stellar performance of the glorious track Say Fuck It– the Adelaide audience was left satisfied.

There is nothing like a sexy, sleazy rock show and in a country and city that has birthed some notorious hard rock bands- Adelaide punters love a good party. After the show that these three bands put on, it will be interesting to see the crowds grow even bigger the next time Fozzy or Buckcherry hit our shores. Let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later.
