Radio/podcast interview
“Like many of Cassy’s previous releases, ‘Arse’ has Cassy’s expert storytelling at its core, as she tells us of a relationship with a girl who got away. . . Of a secondhand car that was pushed to its limits. . . And all of these things have one thing in common: they died, in the arse.”

Cassy Judy comes out with all comedic guns blazing with her offbeat and riotous new album “Body Parts”. Described as a tour of the body, the album touches on Cassy’s journey of gender transition with tender insights buffered by slightly absurd set-ups giving off delightful comedic pay-offs. If you appreciate honest lyricism tinged with sardonic wit, then Cassy Judy has something you’ll want to hear. Props to James Seymour who did a great job producing the album.
Arse
This is a fan favourite with Cassy playing it straight for a very tongue-in-cheek effect. Its infectious melody is bluesy and drips with a moody raw instrumentation channelling the spirit of classic rock. The song’s title alone hints at Cassy’s rebellious and liberating personality, and listen carefully because the lyrics don’t disappoint. Interestingly, Cassy closes her set with this song, which gets more popular with each performance, but it also works as an opener hinting at the rollicking and madcap journey we’re about to undertake.
Titties
When you hear the line “I never got your titties in my face” in the chorus of this upbeat beat folk-rock song, you sit up a bit higher. Did I just hear that? That’s the vibe of “Body Parts”, Cassy keeping everyone on their toes with her vibrant storytelling. Not bound by tradition she has a knack for incorporating modern and avant-garde elements into her compositions, keeping her sound fresh and quick-witted. “Titties” relay the story of a clandestine rendevous that never happened because of the other person’s marital status. It’s a song of morality winning the day over having boobs in your cakehole. Her words not mine.
Giney
The transgender artist aims to demystify the process of gender reassignment surgery with the perky personality of “Giney”. Delivered with comedic timing the track could be a buoyant pop anthem while showcasing her exceptional talent for crafting catchy melodies and clever wordplay. The song’s lyrics are a playful commentary on being open about the journey of transgender people, with Cassy defiantly asserting her individuality throughout. Her wordplay and wit shine through, delivering a message of self-acceptance in a light-hearted yet poignant manner.
.
Bladder
Not a kink song but a love song. That’s what this song is misinterpreted as, a golden shower ditty that is actually a track that embraces the sweetness and light you feel when you are in love. A metaphor for being partners in life, “Bladder”, with its calypso island flourishes, is about carrying the load for a partner when life gets heavy or if they just need someone to lean on. If you’re looking for a wedding song that depicts the reality of relationships, this might be the one for you. At the very least, it’ll get everyone on the dancefloor.
Penis
Cassy through “Body Parts” gives us an insight into her journey to become a transgender woman. “Penis” is infectious, upbeat, with an incredibly catchy tune. It combines elements of pop, soft rock, and folk, resulting in an arrangement that’s both fun and engaging. Its melody is simple yet memorable, making it easy for audiences to be charmed. In Cassy’s usual form, the song tells of an incredibly trying time in her life when she felt disconnected from her body, unable to feel happiness until she decided to embrace the side of herself she had been denying.
The Dogs Are Pissing On Your Swag
We move away from personal storytelling to political commentary with “The Dogs Are Pissing On Your Swag”. This song is a unique blend of music and humour, serving as a sharp critique of political figures, policies, and societal issues with a distinctly Australian flavour. The title refers to a comment from former politician Gareth Evans about Bob Hawke’s diminishing ALP party room popularity. It’s a breather from focussing on the individual refocusing her lens to expose the absurdities and contradictions in politics.
The Toe-Sucking Texan Strikes Again
This one might need an explanation because this song is inspired by a very scandalous affair from the 1990s. Fergie, the Duchess of York became embroiled in tabloid scandal when pap photos emerged of a man kissing (sucking) her feet. Its ridiculous origin serves as perfect comedic fodder for Cassy.
Nose
In the chorus, Cassy sings with passion, “Excavate! Excavate! Get that booger out.” “Nose” is exactly what you think it’s going to be out. There’s no need to be precious here when you have a comedic gold mine up your schnoz. It’s a soft rock song driven by some tight production but if like Cassy’s ex, you find nose-picking hard to stomach just focus on the harmonious arrangement.

.
Sickie
Cassy Judy may be a criminal lawyer and community activist but she’s also a full-fledged comedic songwriter. “Sickie” is a song infused with excitement and whimsy with its playful melody. The song came to fruition after Cassy worked with the Aboriginal Legal Service in Broken Hill and wondered what would happen if no one showed up. Using humour and wit, Cassy fantasises about various comedic situations if everyone did their Australian tradition and chucked a sickie. Sparkling with sweet appeal “Sickie” charms with it’s genteel pace and sing-a-long chorus.
Piss ft Suz Mawer & Lisa Hannsens
This song has everything, whistle solos, kazoos, slide guitars and ambient laughter including a ripping snort by Lisa Hannsens. “Piss” is based on a line that sparked inspiration in Cassy. “You can roll me up in paper and flush me out to sea, but you’ll never take the piss out of me”. Bringing in Suz Mawer & Lisa Hannsens to add their comedic wit and Russell Neal on slide guitar, “Piss” is a friendly affair oozing wry humour.
Where Are My Balls?
As “Body Parts” progresses, Cassy steadily increases the production values adding more quirky musical stabs, and unexpected twists while employing different samples and instruments. It all comes to a head with “Where Are My Balls?” The arrangement could sit on the soundtrack of your most nostalgic platform video game. Diving back into the treasure trove of her life. Cassy’s tongue is firmly in her cheek with this track that delves into the procedure of having her testicles removed. At the time, Cassy wanted to ask her doctor to keep them in a jar but she didn’t have the (ahem) balls to ask. Boom-tsk! Genuinely amusing Cassy takes a significant and foreign experience and demystifies it with her ability to bring light to the situation.
Arse Dance Remix
Closing out the album is a remix of the opener “Arse”. Featuring ethereal synthesizers while traversing a wide sonic spectrum from ambient and dreamy tones edge with an electro-dance vibe. It’s a smooth way to end the album and bring us back down from the topsy-turvy comedic heights that Cassy took us to.
In Body Parts, Cassy Judy breaks down her experiences in relative pieces of herself. Despite the comedic punchlines and sharp imagery, the album in all its constituent parts equals a songbook that aims to connect to others through shared human experiences of self-acceptance and love.
