Realign your focus with Citadel’s enlivening single ‘Collective’
In life, there are a handful of monumental moments in history, that not only affect the world but affect us all individually. And often times, from these moments, we have beautiful creatives such as musicians who draw on these experiences and put them in to word and song.
2020 is a major running theme for many artists, writing and singing about the happenings in the world, what we have lost, what we have gained and the new shift of focus of what we have to look forward to.
It is lovely when an artist can reflect on the positives of a hard time for many and send out a message of hope and positivity. Citadel is one such artist that has done this through her song “Collective”.
Citadel is no ordinary singer/songwriter, she is a healer and her aim for her music is to bring a new depth to the music experience for the listener by writing songs that encourage introspection, healing, and joy.
“Collective” is a song that encompasses just that. The song reflects on the global pandemic and encourages the listener to view the time as an opportunity to re-set and re-focus on what is important.

Citadel’s beautiful voice and with her harmonies on this track makes you want to close your eyes and take in every aspect of the sound, lyrics and song.
The song is slow in tempo, like a ballad. It starts off with a beautiful harmony before jumping into the first verse. The vocals are soulful and with the accompanying piano it brings a beautiful, dreamy sound to the song.
The chorus sings of being together as a collective and how we can all work together and have hope together. The chorus also states how there has never been so much change in our collective. The lyrics are inspiring and thought provoking.
Listening to the lyrics really makes you take in a deep breath and let out a huge sigh. A sigh that lets go of sadness and heartache that we have all gone through collectively in the last year, and gives a sense of belonging, love and hope that we can all get through this together.
A beautiful and peaceful listening experience, it is a song to find a quite space to listen to, close your eyes, listen to the words and breath and reflect.
