Who’s ready for a new weekend dance track?

.

Electronic dance group Clean Bandit are back with Demi Lovato to release their first track of the year Solo. Both musical acts took to their social media accounts a week before its release to announce the anticipated collaboration. Clean Bandit blew up the dance scene in 2014 with their global smash hit Rather Be featuring vocals from Jess Glynne. Since then, hits such as Symphony featuring Zara Larrson and Rockabye featuring Sean Paul and Anne-Marie in 2017 have made the trio a force to be reckoned with. Demi on the other hand has been killing the 2017/2018 pop scene with her latest worldwide chart topper Sorry Not Sorry, as well as the release of her latest studio album Tell Me You Love Me which she is currently on tour for this year.

The track begins with a high-pitched edgy repeat of the songs title over again until the first verse begins. The verses use that expected feel good dance beat that Clean Bandit are renowned for, as well as incorporating interesting instruments throughout it which in this case, a banjo can be heard. During the chorus, the trio use a range of musical effects to repeat certain words that Demi is singing to place emphasis on its meaning by making them stand out. As we get to the drop at the end of the chorus, the track uses the intro of the song in a more upbeat manner to pump up its instrumental. Compared to the groups’ 2017 work which experimented with more classical sounds, this track takes you back to their unique dance grooves.

“Since you’ve been gone,

I’ve been dancing on my own”

The lyrics of the track focus on themes of loneliness and heartbreak. Demi introduces the storyline of the track straight away as she makes it evident that she’s left her former lover broken hearted and hurting after a decision to part ways. As we get to the chorus, the songstress has made it clear that she’s only at the club for her former lover and that her regret in leaving them has now left her dancing solo. Although the lyrics prove that Demi is living throughout this track in remorse, she highlights factors of her actions that tell listeners that she’s still a strong independent women on her own regardless of her choices. It’s an interesting concept incorporating a sense of feminism as a lot of Demi’s recent projects all touch on themes of empowerment and women’s liberation.

Although the track does seem like a bit of a downer lyrics wise, its energetic and electric dance beat makes you want to be up in the club signing all the words out loud. Its fiery nature will definitely have the track stuck in your head, especially the fun play on words and musical effects throughout the chorus. It’s become my new addiction since its release and I’m sure the whole world will be onto this new Solo train soon enough. Clean Bandit’s magical producing skills along with the powerhouse perfect vocals by Demi Lovato has made me predict that Solo will be rising up the charts before we know it. Have a listen down below; you’ll be shocked that this track was missing from your life.
