“blyss. is the amalgamation of passion, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of their musical identity.” – Forte Magazine
Melbourne/Geelong’s four-piece rock band, blyss., have unleashed DEADSTOCK, a debut EP that’s part nostalgic nod to 2000s rock and part modern-day power surge. Think Foo Fighters’ punch, Violent Soho’s rawness, and My Chemical Romance’s angst, all wrapped up with blyss.’s own distinct flair. The result? Four tracks that demand your attention. Let’s dive in:
SLINGSHOT
SLINGSHOT opens the EP with a full-throttle bang. From the very first fuzzed-out riff, it’s clear blyss. aren’t here to ease you in—they’re here to make a statement. Gritty guitars, thunderous drums, and vocals that perfectly balance raspy edge and singalong clarity create a storm of sound that hits hard.
It’s easy to imagine this track absolutely owning a live setting—packed venue, people moving, everyone yelling the lyrics back. Musically, it’s a high-speed collision of Blink-182’s melodic catchiness and Foo Fighters’ relentless energy. Just when you think you’ve caught your breath, the breakdown slams in, keeping the chaos alive. The lyrics carry a reckless confidence that screams “take a piece of my mind,” making SLINGSHOT a killer opener and an anthem for tackling life with abandon.
HEATHEN
If SLINGSHOT is the adrenaline rush, HEATHEN is the defiant middle finger. This track is a gritty, grunge-soaked rebel anthem that oozes attitude. The bassline grooves with a swagger that demands attention, while the drums drive the song with a primal urgency.
Lyrically, HEATHEN is raw and unapologetic, simmering with tension before exploding into a chorus that’s equal parts rebellion and catharsis. The guitar work leans into a darker, grungier tone, giving the song an edge that feels both familiar and fresh. This is a track that hits hard, makes you feel something, and leaves you wanting more.
CIGARETTES
With CIGARETTES, blyss. shift gears slightly, delivering a track that’s introspective yet just as impactful. The atmosphere is smoky and layered, with vocals taking centre stage to tell a story of fleeting connections and hazy memories.
Musically, the track strikes a perfect balance between grit and vulnerability. The guitars shimmer and roar, creating a dynamic soundscape that flows. The chorus hits like an emotional release, raw and cathartic, showcasing the band’s ability to craft not just bangers, but songs that truly resonate.
THE MUSIC
Closing the EP is THE MUSIC, a track that feels like a love letter to everything rock stands for. It’s triumphant, energetic, and unapologetically joyous. Starting with a steady build, the song launches into a euphoric chorus that’s impossible not to sing along with.
The bridge strips things back, letting the lyrics shine, before ramping up into a final crescendo that leaves you buzzing. Stylistically, it’s got the anthemic energy to showcase emotive storytelling. THE MUSIC feels like blyss.’s manifesto—a declaration of why they make music and why it matters.
DEADSTOCK will stamp blyss. on the Australian rock scene. Each track is a standout, from the high-octane chaos of SLINGSHOT to the emotional depth of CIGARETTES. This EP proves blyss. are a band with something to say and the chops to back it up. If you’re into rock that’s loud, raw, and unrelenting, this is a must-listen.
