Who’s ready for an emotional rollercoaster ride?

.

Demi Lovato is back from a two-year album hiatus with her sixth studio album Tell Me You Love Me. Releasing lead single Sorry Not Sorry earlier in the year, the track is still managing to climb charts worldwide which has made this new album highly anticipated. Demi first rose to fame on Disney Channel’s Original Movie Camp Rock that led her to her own television show Sonny With A Chance. Fast-forward a decade; the songstress began to focus heavily on her music and has released five successful studio albums releasing hits such as Cool For the Summer, Skyscraper and Heart Attack.

Having such a personal connection with Demi’s career and journey, I’m always extremely excited when she releases new material as I would regard myself as one of her biggest fans hands down. The first track on her album Sorry Not Sorry has to be her most powerful lead single to date. The upbeat track is a massive stab to all her haters as she emphasises the fact that she’s one hundred per cent happy with where she’s at right now and that she’s definitely not sorry for her actions. It’s refreshing energy and spark has dominated the charts worldwide and is still continuing to progress, proving that Demi had her comeback song chosen correctly.

The second single Tell Me You Love Me was released as a promotional single for the album giving listeners a taste at the versatility to come for the album. The track has a hard-hitting build up throughout its instrumental as Demi uses all her vocal capabilities to belt out her contention. Demi exhibits vulnerability as she sings about the need for a relationship in order to be happy. The third track Sexy Dirty Love once again showcases a different side to the songstress. In this flirty, cheeky track Demi sings about her lustful obsession with a lover along with a bopping beat. It’s a lively, feel good track that will have you singing along to the lyrics over and over again.

I don’t know who I am without you”

.

The next track You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore has to be one of the most raw and stripped back tracks Demi has ever released. In this track, Demi sings about breaking up with her former self, as her addictions don’t do it for her anymore. Being in recovery for several years now, Demi is able to realise the toxins of her past. The slow melodic backing of the track rides Demi’s powerhouse vocals perfectly from start to finish as you can really feel what she’s trying to convey. This track is definitely a stand out on the album and it will make you feel things deep within your soul.

Track number five Daddy Issues lifts the mood once again with a complete banger. The electronic instrumental shows off a unique structure as there’s big moments throughout the track that highlight the distinct beat. Demi sings about her attraction to men who are unavailable and that getting rejected only intrigues her further. It’s a fun, up-tempo track that’s very different to a lot of pop music releases in 2017. The next track Ruin the Friendship is an interesting one. Through a chilled out beat with a soft trumpet, Demi sings about a solid friendship that she wants to take further and cross boundaries with. Demi posted on social media that fans would know whom she’s singing about, leaving fans to speculate that the track is about her close friend Nick Jonas. It’s a fascinating, yet enjoyable experience to listen to.

In the seventh track Only Forever, Demi stated that the track was about the same person in Ruin the Friendship. Demi uses a soft and alluring instrumental to emphasise the fact that the tension between her and this person is strong and that she’s been waiting forever for them to take the next step. It’s a teasing track that grasps the seriousness of her message, as her vocal performance is beyond impeccable.

“Blood on my shoes and you know love is blind”

.

The next track Lonely featuring rapper Lil Wayne has to be my favourite track on her album. Being the only collaboration on her new LP, it’s without a doubt a complete stand out. Through a subtle, wavy beat, Demi sings about an isolated heartbreak where her lover leaves her brutally and the loneliness is causing her extreme pain. Lil Wayne reciprocates Demi’s feelings as he feels that no effort was put into the relationship when they were together. Demi’s stand out vocals and Lil Wayne’s added magic truly makes this track my future predicted smash hit for the album.

Ninth track Cry Baby demonstrates Demi’s savage side once again as she sings about her desperation for love. The songstress takes control of her emotions and won’t settle for someone who constantly breaks her down. The structure of this track perfectly supports Demi’s vocals as she belts out the lyrics to make a firm point. This track will definitely have you screaming out the lyrics in your car. The next track Games is such a relatable track and I feel that many listeners will love this song. Through an upbeat, clapping instrumental, Demi sings about everyday situations where her love interest does little things on purpose in order to ‘play games’. Demi warns her love interest to be careful as they might find out the hard way that two people can play the same game. It’s an incredibly relevant track to today’s day and age with technology and mixed signals and it makes this track a huge stand out for the album.

The eleventh track Concentrate uses a seductive, subtle instrumental to create a sensual kind of vibe. Demi focuses on sexual themes throughout the track as her lust for her lover has her extremely distracted. It’s a more mature; grow up sound for Demi and we get to see a different side to the starlet. The last track Hitchhiker is a gentle, perfect way to end a seamless album. Through the relaxed track, Demi shows off her romantic side as she sings about having stability and reassurance in being able to depend of someone. She feels safe with her lover and she knows that destiny will always bring them together. It’s a flawless outro to wrap up a bang of an album.

I don’t think I anticipated any of these tracks for Demi’s new album. It was a pleasant surprise and I feel that as a committed fan to her music, I have witnessed her grow and evolve into a new phase in her life. As Demi always produces killer vocal ballads, it was a fun change to see her spice things up a bit and showcase a more mature side to her music through themes of love and sex. There’s a huge diverse range of tracks on this album that will definitely play with your emotions. Standouts would definitely have to be You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore and Lonely as I felt her passion on these tracks on a whole other level. Definitely give this album a listen, I believe it’s going to spawn great hit singles and I even think I can smell a few Grammy nominations.
