The regal Enmore Theatre is not the usually the place that comes to mind to host Rap artists that come to Sydney, yet a couple nights ago, it did exactly that… and quite well it did too!

One artist a Veteran of Dub and Bass and RAP with a career spanning over 23 years with, the other actually 23 years old, talented in Blackbox Freestyle who made a huge commercial breakthrough on the Bl@ckbox platform, and with a little help from Britney. Well, when he did a collaboration with her song TOXIC, which soon after debut reached 20 million views.

SONGER opened to a half full floor, with most of the crowd just coming into the foyer. Early in the set he brought out his hit BIG STEPPER. A very bouncy song and people very quickly, bounced into the venue!

Things that he sings about are love, grief and mental health issues. A little something in there for everyone!….but he also makes it fun. A power cut during the set and he barely missed a beat.

Best song of the night was VINO BANDIT. A collaboration with KMOTIONZ on a RUFF SQWAD classic. Thank goodness the Enmore Theatre carpet is known for being strong and supportive during Rap concerts after the floor collapsed during a Genesis Owusu concert in 2022, because Songer had the floor absolutely bouncing and heaving.

A perfect warm up for the headliner. DIZZEE RASCAL.

DIZZEE has been to Australia a few times, for the BIG DAY OUT in 2010 and as a guest presenter for RAGE in 2008 where he played 50 CENT, SNOOP DOG, OUTKAST, NIRVANA and RHCP. Are the last two surprising? No not really. Of interest is that DIZZEE is believed to have read every magazine of KERRANG!. He’s an artist and producer interested in many styles of music.

To the songs. If you were hoping for his biggest bangers, you will not be disappointed. Of his No. 1 five UK hits, he played three of them. DANCE WIV ME (collaboration with Calvin Harris), HOLIDAY (featuring Chrome), and BONKERS (in collaboration again with Chrome and originally produced by Amand Van Helden). The crowd loved Bonkers so much that they were delighted that he played it again as an encore!

DIZZEE RASCAL and SONGER can be seen in Brisbane 7th February, and will do a final Sydney show at the Roundhouse on the 8th which will be very good to see in a smaller circular venue. Get your tickets today!
