After making waves of their stellar EP Dezmonia, psychedelic five-piece DOKO take over audio airwaves once again with their brand new track Break Open. Break Open is the first single from DOKO’s upcoming sophomore release and already raises expectations previously set by their 2016 debut, an EP that both fans and critics were taken back by.

Break Open starts with steady percussion and a simple guitar riff which reverbs into the song like ripples in a pool of water. And then, comes in frontman Jared Higgs’ soft yet gritty vocals as he sings “I feel a little washed up over you…”. The ARIA award-winning production skills of Steven Schram (San Cisco, Paul Kelly, The Creases) are very prominent on this track. All the instruments used on this track blend into each other with contrasting harshness in the vocals and percussions.

However, it’s the breakdown during the chorus that brings Break Open to life. It’s reggae tendencies slows the song down as Higgs’ sings “Sit back, let’s both fall apart” and creates the essence of the track so mellow and intense at the same time.

With Break Open being the first track of many off this upcoming sophomore release, only DOKO know what we can expect from the tracks that follow this release. However, based on what we’ve heard so far, 2018 is slowly becoming DOKO‘s year and there’s so much more that is yet to come from this Sydney five-piece.
