In just a short period of time, five piece band Dream on Dreamer have managed to climb to the top of the hardcore charts; touring the world and recently releasing their new album ‘It Comes And Goes’. They have now hit the road with their national tour to debut their new music, and tagging along is an impressive line up of heavy local bands. On Friday the 8th June, fans began to fill the intimate venue and the bands were preparing for their sold out show at Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club.

This venue was extremely intimate, but as soon as the show began, I was beyond impressed. Absolute praise to the sound and lighting team who worked incredibly hard behind the scenes, they made the entire show enjoyable and flawless for the crowd. The quality of this show was impeccable for a such a small venue.

The opening act Advocates took the stage by storm, opening the show with heavy tunes to get the forming crowd moving. The local band from Melbourne, kickstarted the evening with their song ‘River’ off their soon to be released EP. Their faultless performance really captured Advocates unique sound and heartening lyrics for onlooking fans, new and old. As a band, their stage presence really made their performance; from guitarists Mason Hine and Robbie Blaich’s head banging and synchronised spin kicks on stage, to vocalist Detlyn Raven joining the crowd for their monstrous breakdowns. The band received a heartwarming response from the audience, and left the crowd with anticipation for the next act.

Second to hit the stage with incredible energy, were the local band Foxblood. With their wild stage presence, the band executed an array of songs from their album ‘The Devil, The Dark And The Rain’ and brand new material. Lead vocalist Tom Beale tore the stage apart with his unique voice and fast paced vocals, playing their whole set with sincere energy which ultimately became their trademark. Their sound suited this crowd perfectly, bringing a unique upbeat ‘rap’ sound to the hardcore genre. As a band their liveliness and passion radiated throughout their performance. Foxblood definitely bought a sense of light hearted and up beat vibes to the line up, and the Melbourne crowds response was extremely positive, thoroughly enjoying their 30 minute set.

Local band, Ocean Sleeper from the Victorian shores were next up. The hardcore band came onto the stage and were met with a lively audience, full of anticipation and excitement for their set. As a new listener, I didn’t know what to expect from this band, but Ocean Sleeper honestly blew me away, from the incredible lighting and sound, to impeccable stage presence and crowd engagement, they evidently know how to put on a good show. The band were able to showcase their newly released single ‘Six Feet Down’, which was received extremely well by the Melbourne crowd. Each member of the band put everything they had into their performance, and in return received a huge amount of admiration from fans.

The final act that everyone had been waiting for, Dream on Dreamer opened the curtain to their sold out show in Melbourne. All five members of the band were welcome to the stage with an eruption of excitement and cheers from their home town crowd, opening with their popular single ‘Don’t Lose Your Heart’. Dream on Dreamer impressively managed to get the entirety of the audience jumping to the songs on their jam packed set list; this indescribable buzz in the crowd remained throughout their entire set. Lead vocalist Marcel kept the stage ablaze with pure energy, complimented with Zach’s clean vocals and melodic guitar; together they screamed the touching lyrics to their onlooking Dream on Dreamer fans with such power and passion. The band gave the crowd a variety of tracks, all met with flying spin kicks as the pit became a chaotic frenzy in the intimate venue. Dream on Dreamer put on a performance that will go down in history for these Melbourne fans, and they truly met my expectations. The band then left the stage with fans chanting for more, leaving us with hope that it won’t be too long until they tour the Australian shores again.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect from this show, having never been to this venue, and not knowing all the bands on the line up. I left the show with nothing but positive feedback towards the teams and bands that worked so hard to put on such a memorable show. I highly suggest checking out the bands mentioned above, especially Dream on Dreamer themselves. You will not be disappointed.
