There’s nothing quiet about Emerauld. The Adelaide firebrand has made a habit of turning raw nerves into raw sound and with “Loud Mouth” she doubles down on noise as defiance. Imagine the sugary venom of The Veronicas colliding with the deadpan wit of Courtney Barnett and the guitar-slinging bite of Alex Lahey, that’s the chaos she’s serving.
.
.
Produced by Matt Shultz at Interim Studios, the track thrives on imperfection. Guitars roar and scape, drums tumble forward with a live-wire energy and Emerauld’s voice cuts right through the bedlam. The mix isn’t interested in gloss; instead it leans into the scrappiness, creating the feeling of a house show on the verge of combusting. It’s messy, sure, but it’s in an electrifying way.
Lyrically, “Loud Mouth” is both protest and punchline. Written during what Emerauld calls a “political and emotional breaking point”, it rails against silence in the face of injustice while finding release in humour. A line about stealing her grandma’s dentures is absurd but it works. Breaking tension without undercutting the rage. That balance of fury and levity gives the track bite.
.
.
What makes “Loud Mouth” fun is that it doesn’t try to be perfect. The chorus barrels forward like it’s daring you not to yell along and the whole thing feels cathartic. From the hooks that carry the pop rush of the verses lifting the track from scrappy indie grit into something anthemic. It’s the kind of disruptive therapy we need right now.
Emerauld is only 20 but she’s already figured out how to make her songwriting magnetic. “Loud Mouth” isn’t just a song that will have you bouncing in the pit, it’s a middle finger and a defiant cry rolled into one. And honestly, after a listen you’ll feel bloody great too.
