From dance-inducing tracks to acoustic to choreo and chats, Eric Nam put on a fun, top quality, all rounder of a show.

GRENTPEREZ
The night kicked off with a very talented grentperez (real name Grant) creating a feel-good, laid back vibe with his jazz-inspired love songs. His talent is undeniable and impressive, especially for someone as young as he is. You can expect mature, honey-like vocals with charisma, youth and energy.
Grant played songs; old, new and unreleased; definitely wasn’t short of banter and joking around with the crowd, and got the crowd chanting Eric Nam, on more than occasion, rather than his own name – if i didn’t know any better, I’d think he’s his #1 supporter! He made sure to spread love and engage with his guitarist and drummer as well.
Judging by the engaged audience, they wouldn’t have minded if his set was longer than 30 mins. Highlights include Clementine, Cherry Wine, and his latest upbeat single Ego. Definitely recommend checking out his tour later this month and next.

The crowd noticeably roared when Eric Nam burst onto stage with synth-pop, whistle-heavy track – Any Other Way. The soft, whimsical nature of the song was brought to life as he freely danced across the stage in a funky suit, backed by a live band. The 2 electric guitarists and drummer on an elevated platform really did elevate his performances.
In the 90 minute set, he played just short of 20 songs and made sure to craft a setlist that highlighted his versatility and range. He explored funk, electro pop, synth pop, R&B and more. The crowd experienced funky dance tracks such as “Paradise” and “You’re Sexy I’m Sexy” to the more toned down and emotive “Love Die Young” and “One Way Lover”, and silky smooth “Down For You”. Packed with slick choreo, and with lights down low and red, “Down For You” would be one of the standouts.
As a nice contrast to the majority portion of upbeat/dance/sway-inducing songs, Eric slowed down half way through for the more vocal-centred songs, sitting on a high stool/chair with his live band. Flash lights out, the classic hands swaying left to right, getting the crowd to sing certain parts of “I Don’t Miss You”. Fans received a treat when he also took the time here for song requests, and sang short bursts of quite old Eric Nam songs that his current band hadn’t heard of.
Throughout the night, his two lively back up dancers dressed in all white came out and worked the stage – with Eric joining in on the sharp choreo. If the kpop influence wasn’t clear enough, he played Korean tracks including “Good For You” and “Honestly”. It was a nice, refreshing addition.

You could see his podcasting, hosting and entertainer background through his fair amount of banter and conversation. “My show is part music but mostly TED talk” he says. Indeed, it wouldn’t be an Eric Nam show without a bit of playfulness and real direct fan-artist engagement. The humour jumped out as he asked if there was any here against their will such as parents, and whether the audience knew he was Korean and reenacted those who did. Eric also reacted to some interesting fan-made signs, “Marry me”, “Spit on me”, you know, the typical sort of thing.
As always, he scanned the crowd seeking those with birthdays on that day – no, not yesterday, tomorrow, this week, or this month. In the process he poked fun at our pronunciation of Meghan, apparently Mee-ghAn.
Towards the end, he spent time thanking his band, dancers, grentperez and fans (‘Nam Nation’). He also thanked the audience for supporting Asian artists and hoping that the culture and momentum continues. He closed it off nicely with a group shot; posters, peace signs, korean finger hearts, and some kpop lightsticks peppered around.
It was a crisp, colourful and lively show with a bit of everything in terms of genre and elements. Eric Nam is undoubtedly a multi-faceted live performer with feel-good energy, and not one to miss if/when he tours.
