After being postponed four times, Full Tilt Festival finally happened in Brisbane on Saturday 23rd April. Held at Eatons Hill Hotel with a big outdoor stage and the indoor ballroom, after a smooth entry, fans were quickly inside ready for the bands to start. Unfortunately The Bennies had to pull out at last minute, making some bands set times shuffle around. Amidst a rainy day, patrons were out in their raincoats but nothing would stop this crowd from having a good time!
Sydney’s Reliqa starting us off on the outdoor stage. A strong heavy start to their melodic hardcore tunes, the two-piece got the crowd jumping and clapping along. They played some new songs and closed with Deja Vu. Following the crowd rush to the next stage, opening up the ballroom, was Stepson. They filled the room to capacity, started up circle pits and had the whole crowd singing along.
Luca Brasi walked onto the outdoor stage to Feel Like a Woman. It didn’t matter that the vocalist didn’t sing all the words because the crowd happily filled in the gaps. Luca Brasi forgot the words to one of the songs and the band started again with the crowds help. They covered Champagne Supernova by Oasis which got the whole crowd to sing along.

Justice for the Damned had the crowd packed in the ballroom indoor stage. Fans were jumping along and matching the energy of the band. Slowly Slowly played the outdoor stage with a mixture of their old and new songs. They had the crowd surfing throughout their set. Slowly Slowly finished with Race Car Blues and the crowd yelled the last chorus back to the band. There was a long queue for the inside stage to see Void of Vision, with the venue packed to the brim. They finished with a massive wall of death in the final breakdown.
You could hear Thy Art Is Murder’s loud screams from the car park as the crowd packed the outdoor stage area. The whole festival venue was head banging along to their songs. Shoes were thrown high into the air as the crowd surfers made their way through the crowd for the final song.
The lead singer of Closure had an awesome stage presence, matching that of the crowd jumping around the ballroom. Frenzal Rhomb braced the outdoor stage next in their hi-vis vests. The crowd soon gathered around to mosh for some of their songs.

Alpha Wolf had the crowd lining up out the door to get into the limited capacity ballroom stage well before their set. Once their set was scheduled to start, the line stopped moving (even though fans were still lined up to the length of the festival). So I unfortunately missed seeing Alpha Wolf playing, but I saw the excitement of everyone filing out the room after their set, they clearly had a great time.
In Hearts Wake were up next on the outdoor stage as the crowd left the ballroom and headed straight for the mosh. Cheering erupted as their guitars and drums started, they begun with ‘Worldwide Suicide’. Hands were thrown in the air as Jake Taylor jumped into the crowd to sing along with fans.

Between You & Me took over the ballroom. Fans jumped and cheered for ‘Supervillain’ as the band matched their energy. They played mostly new songs from their album ‘Armageddon’. ⁃ “We haven’t played a show in this country for two and a half years and now we’re headlining the second stage at this festival” They were very humbled to be playing so late on the lineup, especially when they’re the “least heaviest band on the lineup”. Of course they saved their best songs til last as Dakota started playing. Jake Wilson did his usual flip into the crowd during the breakdown. The final song played ‘Deadbeat’ as James (Bassy) and Jake joined in the circle pit with security guards holding their leads up for them.
To end the night, Northlane played the outdoor stage. Fire cannons shot off at the start of Northlanes set. Hands in the air, crowd jumping, singing along and crowd surfing. The energy from the crowd was electric. Pyrotechnics lit up the stage from behind and the fire cannons continued throughout the set. Northlane released their latest album ‘Obsidian’ the day before and were able to play a few songs off it. The final song begun ‘Bloodline’ as the crowd yelled the words back. Fans yelling for ‘one more song’ quickly got the band back on stage for them to play ‘Talking Heads’. The song started with a confetti cannon and continued with fire cannons. Patrons stopped their walk outs to join in singing along to the real final song. There was so much energy from Northlane onstage and fans in the crowd as the final chorus begun.
