Declan Byrne – Triple J, Home & Hosed (★★★★) “You just can’t deny Georgia’s soulful voice, it’s got power and poise”
If you don’t know about Georgia Hoareau then it’s likely you will soon. The singer-songwriter and Gold Coast Music Awards finalist is proving herself to be one of the most interesting indie artists emerging in Australian music. With her latest single, “Oh Well”, Georgia further lays claim to becoming a bonafide rock queen.
“Oh Well” is in short a brash indie-rock anthem about surviving heartbreak and coming out the other side victorious and stronger for the experience. A further deep dive reveals a song with gripping hooks and an infectious melody that captures the attention of all that hear it resulting in you singing along by the end of the song. “Oh Well”, written by Georgia, tells of her journey post-breakup and the slow climb to reach a point where she can let go of the relationship and be free.

Knowing that it’s no wonder Georgia sings with the strength of a hero reborn. Her stable vocals exude a deep warmth that grounds the song. A brisk drum beat keeps the rhythm moving at a quick pace and the gritty guitars grab your focus and along with the bellowing “ohhhs” in the chorus, you’ve got a classic indie-rock song crying out for a live audience. “Oh Well” reminds us of the lionhearted everywoman character of indie legend Alex Lahey and the introspective songwriting of Olivia Rodrigo and Rex Orange County.
There isn’t much not to like about “Oh Well” the c’est la vie song about growth proves that Georgia has the mettle to produce lustrous music that still has a bit of grunt to it. With an EP release just on the horizon, the rest of the year appears to be an exciting one for the young woman.
“Oh Well” made its debut last Friday 16th of September across all streaming platforms.
