On Friday 22nd November, we went off to see 16-year-old virtual singer Hatsune Miku perform with other virtual characters Len and Rin, Kaito, Luka, and Meiko, at John Cain Arena.
As soon as we got there you could easily spot many people dressed up just like Miku and the others despite the hot weather.
After we got in and found our seats, you could see the crowd’s excitement, waving around the light sticks before the show started. As the show started the arena was filled with cheers and screams of excitement as the virtual singers were introduced on the screen with eye-catching graphics.
Miku, who was accompanied by a live band, opened with her song called ‘Miku’ and people immediately started singing along and waving their light sticks in sync with the beat of the song.
Miku said a few welcoming words to the crowd and went right into the next few songs, some of them being The Vampire, Kokoro, and Childish War, which were performed by the Kagamine twins Lin and Ren, all of which were keeping the energy levels high. Around halfway through the show, the live band was introduced to the crowd, each instrument getting their little solo.
The setlist was filled with fan favourites that kept the crowd going, like Luka Luka Night Fever by Megurine Luka, mine being ‘M@GICAL CURE! LOVE SHOT!’ performed by Hatsune Miku.
However, I feel there could’ve been a bit more interaction from the virtual singers instead of just a welcome and goodbye. The live band performed very well, and no instrument overplayed another, adding more life to the show.
Overall, I felt the concert/performance was an exciting and memorable experience that did not disappoint.
