Have you always wanted to be a musician?
Yes! Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always had a deep admiration for anything musical. I was obsessed with albums when I was younger and wanted to make them myself, which is why I became a producer.
When did you get the song writing bug?
I wrote my first song when I was about 7. Although I used to write poetry as a kid, I didn’t actually start singing on my records until I was 13 so the first track I wrote would’ve been some dodgy sounding instrumental.
How would you describe your sound?
Genreless in a way, as I’m always trying to change things up. But I guess it could also go under ‘Bedroom Pop’ as I make 95% of my songs by myself in my bedroom and do rather enjoy making pop.
Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I don’t know completely why! But I think a lot of people enjoy the fact it appeals to pretty much anyone. It can be taken either way- happy or sad. You get to decide how to take in the lyrics and the sound of the record.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Present- Mac DeMarco, Loving, Tame Impala, Babe Rainbow. Past- Todd Rundgren, Paul McCartney, Prince.
Your Mini-Album is about to be released – Describe its origin and evolution.
I started recording bits of the record almost two years ago back in autumn 2019, when I discovered some songs I wrote back in 2017, when I was 14. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with them but ended up recording way more good material than just an EP. I thought it was a little too early to put out a full length album so I settled at 8. It’s a pretty straight forward record that just looks at my life so far and my plans for the future.
.
.
What are the signature pieces on the album, and which is your favourite track?
The title track is kinda the signature song on the record as it basically overlooks the whole concept of the album, which is not having enough time to do all the things you wanna do in life. I think my fave song on the record would have to be “Film Scene Day Dream”, the last song I recorded for the album.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience?
There’s an indescribable energy, it’s truly magical. I’ve never felt something so intense yet so rewarding. It feels like everybody shares the energy of each other’s presence.
What’s been the career highlight so far?
There’s so many. But I think playing at O2 Brixton Academy at 16 years old was truly special for me. It was my first London show and I supported Sundara Karma.
Finally, a few questions for some quick answers –
