Amnplify’s Sylwia recently sat down with Andreas Bjulver, the vocalist of Danish deathcore band CABAL, to discuss the band’s origins, their upcoming album Everything Rots, live performances, and even their love for horror films.
From Solo Project to Deathcore Force
CABAL started in 2015, initially as a solo project by guitarist and main songwriter Chris. The project, Inspector Gong, featured various guest vocalists but eventually transformed into a full-fledged band. Andreas, who was initially reluctant to join, eventually came on board after a drunken conversation with Chris.
“I was playing bass in two other bands at the time, studying and working, so I didn’t think I had the time,” Andreas recalls. “But Chris convinced me to at least give it a try. The next morning, I was regretting saying yes, but then he sent me the demos, and I thought, ‘Oh, this is actually really good.’”
Almost ten years later, CABAL has evolved into one of the most relentless forces in the deathcore scene.

The Evolution of CABAL’s Sound
Their new album, Everything Rots, is set for release on March 21st and has been described as their most ferocious work yet.
“I think it’s faster and more abrasive than anything we’ve done before. It’s the most unhinged we’ve sounded,” Andreas explains. “We’ve stripped away certain elements and added new ones, and honestly, this is how I think we should have always sounded.”
The Challenges of Being a Metal Vocalist
Performing extreme vocals can take a toll, and Andreas knows this all too well.
“I started growling when I was 16 and had no idea what I was doing. I used to blow out my voice constantly,” he admits. “But over time, I learned how the voice works, started doing warm-ups, and treated it like a muscle. Now, I can do 30 shows in a row without completely wrecking my voice.”
When asked if he ever forgets lyrics on stage, he laughs. “Yeah, it happens. I just growl through it. People can’t really tell anyway.”

Live Shows and Fan Interactions
For Andreas, the energy exchange between the band and the crowd is the best part of performing live.
“There’s nothing quite like a crazy metal or hardcore show,” he says. “If we go wild, the crowd goes wild, and then we go even crazier—it just keeps escalating.”
A fan once posted online about meeting Andreas after a show and praised him for being down-to-earth and approachable.
“I love meeting people who come to our shows,” Andreas responds. “Unless I’m really tired or sick, I’m usually hanging out after the gig. I appreciate our fans so much.”
Music Videos and a Love for Horror
CABAL’s music videos often draw from Scandinavian folklore and horror aesthetics. Their video for Exsanguination was inspired by Midsommar.
“We wanted to keep that cold, eerie aesthetic but do something different,” Andreas explains. “When I saw Midsommar, it clicked. It’s bright and colorful but still so unsettling. That was perfect for the video.”
A huge horror fan, Andreas cites Hereditary and Midsommar as two of his all-time favorite films. He also recommends the Danish psychological horror film Speak No Evil.
“If you like dark, gut-punch horror, that one’s a must-watch.”

Dream Music Video Collaborations
If money were no object, Andreas would love to collaborate with his favorite directors.
“Imagine Ari Aster directing one of our music videos,” he muses. “Or Jordan Peele. Even John Carpenter, because he does music as well. That would be insane.”
Looking Ahead
With Everything Rots set to drop soon, CABAL is preparing for a packed year of touring and intense live performances.
“This album is our rawest and most aggressive work yet,” Andreas promises. “I can’t wait for people to hear it and to bring it to life on stage.”
Stay tuned for more updates from CABAL and be sure to catch them on tour when they hit your city!
