Interview with As December Falls

Meet As December Falls, a female-fronted pop/rock foursome. The Nottingham-based band has achieved a lot in their short career for an independent band – two EPs, a tour and a brand new single this year called More to You. The band has big plans for the rest of 2017 – bigger shows, more releases – As December Falls – a band to keep on your radar. Check out their recent chat with AMNplify for more!

How and when did the band form?

Formed in 2014, our old bassist Timmy was the link to everyone in the band. He knew us all separately and asked each of us if we’d like to join a female-fronted pop punk band he was putting together. The first day we all met in the same room was to start recording our first EP A Home Inside Your Head in the studio and it’s been a wild ride ever since.

Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in music?

We all have our separate influences, Bambi (rhythm guitar) and Beth (vocals) both come from a more pop-punk background with bands such as Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Against The Current and Panic! being main influences. Whereas Ande (lead guitar/vocals) comes from a more blues and classic rock and roll background and Luke’s (drums) drumming having clear elements of metal and technical playing.

Can you describe As December Falls in one sentence?

If Ariana Grande was backed by a balls-to-the-wall rock band.

Who are your main musical influences?

For fans of Against the Current, Paramore and Fall Out Boy.

What is the inspiration behind More to You?

The song is about someone making out they’re so much more than they actually are. The type of guy who is just all mouth but can’t walk what they preach.

How does the new single differ to your past releases?

We feel like it’s a more mature sound musically, a mix between more pop-punk but with a massive pop chorus.

What makes As December Falls different to similar sounding bands?

There aren’t many female-fronted bands, that’s the main defining element of our sound. The fact we all different musical influences hopefully shows in our music.

What has been your most memorable career highlight to date?

Probably too many to count, nearly selling out Rescue Rooms in Nottingham was a proud moment for us. It’s our home town and we grew up watching the bands we love play that stage so finally being there ourselves, headlining our own show felt amazing.

What is something you would like to achieve career-wise that you haven’t done yet?

So far we’ve focused all our releases on EPs and singles since we’re entirely self funded, self managed and do all the promotion side ourselves. It would be amazing to release a full album with the proper support from the right management/ label.

If you could play any venue in the world, where would it be and why?

Does Warped Tour count? Warp Tour is a rite of passage for bands in our genre so that would be our main goal at the moment!
