Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
I have always wanted to sing and perform on a stage since I can remember. I started performing from the age of 7 and have never looked back. I wrote my first song when I was about 11 years old and have many Songwriting books full of songs since then. As life has thrown its successes and challenges at me over the years, this has often shaped different stories and sounds.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
There are so many facets to country music and I always love a new challenge. My new album is country combined with sounds of pop and rock. My definition of success for a song, is that people can relate and resonate with it. To do this I write about real topics: the triumphs, the hardships, everyday life, family and everything in between.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
When I was growing up there were many artists I listened to such as Slim Dusty, Lee Kernaghan, Graeme Connors, the McClymonts, Catherine Britt and aspired to be like, whether that was their sound, their songwriting or stage presence. However now having had the opportunity to work alongside so many great artists, I feel I continue to learn something new from each of them. This in turn has allowed me to learn and grow, and helped shape my music story – being true to yourself, taking risks, work ethic, songwriting skills, stage presence and so much more.

Your new single ‘Find Your Music’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
I started the idea of Find Your Music with wanting to write a feel-good, upbeat song about being yourself. I wanted it to be a statement, a reminder to everyone to not put too much pressure on themselves as life is too short. Even though we can get caught up in life’s stressors and expectations, just be and do what you want to do, even if it’s outside of what people expect from you. I then went into the co-write with David Carter, with a particular sound and guitar riff I could hear. Then worked with Adrian Hannan from The SongStore Studios in Victoria on the production.

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
It’s an album set to be released in 2021.

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
Check out the events below.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Elvis Presley as he is a legendary icon for music and incredible performer.

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
Continue to produce music that resonates with my audience, continue to tour and meet new fans, and one day win a Golden Guitar in Tamworth.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Performing to a live audience you get to share in the moment of each song – the stories, the laughter, the tears, the energy. It is also incredible to meet the fans who continually support an artists music.
The success of my first album ‘Something More’ and being able to tour interstate sharing stories and meeting fans.

Rumour has it you’re quite the hockey player and also now coach hockey.  Tell us a little about that, and what it felt like as a coach for you team to take out the bronze medal at the state championships in 2020.
Yes, after a life-changing injury in 2016 I retired from sport and took on the Under 19 Capricornia School Girls Hockey Coach. In 2020, sport shutdown and our championship was one of the only ones in Queensland to be rescheduled to later in the year. The Under 19 team went into overtime, shoot outs and although with multiple players injured they won the Bronze medal at the Queensland school girls state championships. An incredible effort, demonstrating top level teamwork, determination and skill. I’ve never been more proud of a team, nor have I seen a team show up for each other more than they did.

Finally, a few questions for some quick answers –

BRITTANY ELISE
shares new single
‘FIND YOUR MUSIC’

Forget the whole New Year, new you attitude; instead, Brittany Elise has started the year in typical fashion, with a new single named ‘Find Your Music’ that is sure to emulate her previous successes. It comes off the back of Something More, her most recent album, which reached #2 on the iTunes Country Albums chart and #20 across all genres.

The track, she says, ‘was written to be a feel-good reminder that although we sometimes get caught up in life’s stressors, life is too short to worry. We have to remember not to put too much pressure on ourselves, just do what we want, and be who we want to be, even if it’s outside what people expect from you.’

‘Find Your Music’ was recorded in Brittany’s studio in Queensland and produced at The SongStore Victoria with Adrian Hannan, who has worked with Delta Goodrem, Vanessa Amorosi, TAXIRIDE and more.

‘The recording process was one of my favourite parts of this song,’ says Brittany, ‘because I decided to take an online course in music production after COVID-19 shut down the world. I set up my own studio at home to ensure I could keep writing, recording and releasing music, then I teamed up with Adrian to create a fun, feel-good sound.’

Fun, feel-good sound is the perfect way to describe ‘Find Your Music’, which was simply made to echo around the summer airwaves. And despite the track’s title, it would seem that Brittany Elise never had an issue finding her music, given recent successes. Her single ‘A Simple Plan’ (released 2020) reached #1 on the iTunes Country Singles chart, while ‘Another Day’ peaked at #3 and has had 22.3k Spotify streams since its release in 2019. Brittany was also an ABC Australian Music Month featured artist and a finalist for the Patti McKinnon ‘Up and Coming Artist’ Award at the 2020 ICMA Australian Awards.

Combine this success with a love of sport – as coach, she was a bronze medalist at the 2020 Hockey State Championships – and charity – she wrote a song for the R U Ok Campaign and played several bushfire relief concerts in early 2020 – and you’ve got a formidable talent who has proven that she’s ready to put in the hard work needed to truly establish oneself in the industry. She can’t wait to get back to playing live music and has several dates already planned, so if you’re ready to Find Your Music, well, here’s your opportunity:
