What’s your earliest memory of being inspired to become a professional artist?

I don’t really remember. I just liked to make music by myself on the computer and it kinda got bigger from there.

.

Which instruments do you play?

Piano, drums and sing.

.

Is your family musical? How have they influenced your music?

No my family isn’t musical at all.

.

Which artists inspire you the most?

Off the top of my head: George Clanton, Jai Paul, Frank Ocean, Mac Demarco, Kanye West, Damon Albarn and Danny Elfman are all inspirations to me in one way or another.

.

What are your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighbourhood or town?

Listening to Radio Los Santos & KDST on GTA San Andreas when I was like 10 years old is pretty nostalgic, I guess I have a thing for both hip hop and country music. Also listening to the soundtrack of Mirrors Edge was my first introduction to complex electronica.

.

What are some of your favorite records of all time?

Ennio Morricone’s soundtrack to ‘The Good, The Bad And The Ugly’. Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’ (best record hands down in the last 5 years or so at least IMO). ‘100% Electronica’ by George Clanton. ‘Worlds’ by Porter Robinson is really cool. Notorious B.I.G. ‘Ready To Die’. Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley would be in there too… I have so many it’s hard to list everything!

Have you been in competitions? Any notable prizes?

I entered some remix competitions when I was just starting out in music production at about 14 years old, but nothing notable.

.

Are you the type of writer who feels most motivated to create when the chips are down? Or are you equally as compelled to write music when you are feeling happy and content with life? Do you feel like songwriting is therapeutic?

I guess most of life so far the chips are down, so probably then. I daydream often and a lot of my ideas come from cold places rather than warmer ones to be honest, but I try to make them feel comfortable and nostalgic rather than dark and ominous. I definitely think songwriting is therapeutic.

.

How often are you in the studio? What makes a good session?

I can’t afford my own proper studio, most of the time I’m just on a laptop and some headphones but there’s a studio I can go work in to record vocals and mix my tracks when I need it. A good session is when you smash down 3 coffees and come out with a whole record in a day!

.

How often and for how long do you practice?

I want to say all the time but my only keyboard is broken and I’m waiting on a new one to be delivered in the mail, so until then not much haha. Production wise though I’m spending every free minute I have on writing and developing new songs.

.

Is there anything you believe should be changed in the music industry?

Music culture in Australia feels very biased to me right now, especially on the radio. I think there should be a lot more outlets for young people to hear and have their own music heard but I appreciate those already out there that are supporting new sounds such as Unearthed and community radio stations.
