Did you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
Ever since I can remember yes, I was always singing as a little girl driving my brothers mad! I started writing songs at about 9 years old.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I’d call it Hillbilly/Country/Americana. I think my songs are honest and real and true and people can relate to that.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Hank Williams, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Brandi Carlisle, Kacey Musgraves, The Dixie Chicks.

Your new single has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
I got the title from my best friend in Nashville who when I asked her what was new on the radio in Nashville she said to me “oh honey, I don’t need the radio to tell me whats wrong, I am a country song!” I loved that and wrote it down and when I started writing for this album I pulled it out and wrote it as one of the first songs for the album.

Is there an Album on the drawing board?
Yes, album is pretty much done now and ready to go, just a few finishing touches. It will be released early 2021.

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I am working on a few things for the end of 2020 to showcase the new album songs (along with some old favs) with a full band in some venues and also about to announce a co-headlining tour for 2021 for album release!

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose and why?
Hank Williams because he is the ultimate all-time best.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
There is no high or drug in this world that can get you the feeling of playing live. Connecting to a crowd with your own stories and melodies is an incredible feeling. I would say one of my highlights was playing the Grand Ol Opry at 17 for the first time to a full house. It changed my life forever.

CATHERINE BRITT
releases new single
“I AM A COUNTRY SONG”

One of Australia’s best loved country singer-songwriters, Catherine Britt, recently released the lead single from her anticipated new album and her first to be released through her new independent label, Beverley Hillbilly Records.

“I’m so excited to release new music after crowd-funding my new record with my music supporters and friends and going independent for the first time in my career starting my own record label, Beverley Hillbilly Records”, says Catherine.

“I Am A Country Song is a favourite of mine off the new album and I’m so excited to share it with the world after such a strange time in all our lives”.

She says the inspiration for “I Am A Country Song” came from a conversation with her best friend in Nashville.

“I asked her when we landed in Nashville for our last US tour, “Have you been listening to the radio? What’s new?” She simply replied in her Mississippi drawl, “Oh Honey, I don’t need to listen to the radio, I AM a country song”.

“It has always stuck with me as such a great idea for a song and I kept it in my list of ideas for years until this album. When I sat down with Gareth Hudson, I told him my idea and the song just fell out of us. We both knew straight away it was a special song that many country fans can relate to”.

Catherine kicked off her Bush Pubs Tour 2020 in Collinsville QLD (Fri 28th August), and is taking in many bush towns across Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania. Special guest for the tour will be the acclaimed Melody Moko.

All shows will abide by each State’s Covid rules and regulations. We ask all patrons to follow these and ensure safe social distancing.

It’s the singer and the song that makes for truly distinctive and enduring artists. Lots of great songs and some mighty fine singing. Catherine Britt has a voice that instantly gets your attention … but unlike others, it is the craftsmanship of this singer/songwriter who unashamedly boasts a worthy story to tell that truly keeps her audience enthralled.
