About CLANCY PYE

Fast becoming one of the most exciting singer-songwriters to emerge in Australian country music, Clancy Pye grew up with country music in her blood. Raised on a farm in Oberon (NSW) surrounded by a musical family, Clancy first picked up a guitar at the age of six, cut her teeth playing in bars and has since grown a large and dedicated fanbase drawn to her captivating songs and storytelling ability.

Releasing her debut self-titled EP in 2020, Clancy’s music has received extensive support from fans and radio stations nationwide. Her breakout singles ‘Get Lost’ and ‘Heaven Can’t Wait’ both debuted at #1 on the iTunes Country Singles Chart with her accompanying music videos also attracting widespread attention. The music video for her heartfelt single ‘Heaven Can’t Wait’ amassed over 250,000 views on social media alone, featuring touching tributes to those people who inspired the song.

No stranger to the big stage, the 2020/2022 Toyota Star Maker Grand Finalist has performed at some of Australia’s biggest country music festivals (CMC Rocks, The Gympie Music Muster) as a backing vocalist and guitarist for numerous country artists, including New Zealand country star Kaylee Bell. She has also performed internationally, accompanying her older brother Mickey Pye to perform at renowned country music festivals in Canada (Big Valley Jamboree) and Nashville (CMA Fest).

Influenced by the likes of Lori McKenna, Brandy Clark, Kasey Chambers and Natalie Hemby, it is in song writing that Clancy has developed an extraordinary ability to connect with audiences and evoke sentiments that resonate with everyday people.

Devoting years to writing an extensive catalogue of music, Clancy has wrapped up recording of her debut album with Producer Sean Rudd (The Vault Studios) and has begun giving fans a taste of what’s to come with two singles released off her album so far. Her first single and album title track ‘Feels Like Home’ sets the tone of Clancy’s forthcoming album, encapsulating her authentic artistry & deep connection with her upbringing, as can be seen in the music video filmed in her picturesque hometown of Oberon. Her second single ‘Drink About’ with its feel-good, crafty lyrics and vibrant contemporary production is a fan favourite at live shows & has received widespread radio airplay.

Off the back of being on the road throughout 2024 with Jason Owen and Tania Kernaghan on a number of tour dates across Australia, Clancy has her sights set on releasing brand new music in 2025, touring & continuing to do what she loves most in writing songs. Clancy’s string of upcoming singles ahead of her album release are destined to strike a chord with her growing audience and highlight the incredible depth within her as both an artist and songwriter.

With a lot more music to come from the talented songstress, Clancy Pye is an artist to watch in 2025.

Have you always wanted to be an artist? When did you get the song writing bug? Briefly describe your journey to date.
I grew up in a very musical household. My parents and all of my extended family played instruments when I was growing up, so naturally my family were my earliest influence and inspired me to pick up the guitar. That quickly progressed from playing along with my family at home, to going out and performing pub gigs and at local events. By the time I hit high school, my older brother and I had formed a country rock band and were out playing every Friday and Saturday night right throughout our teenage years. We also started going along to country music festivals and were getting involved in the Australian country music scene which allowed us to meet other musicians and artists and inspired us to dive into writing and recording our own music. As a musician, I have been really fortunate to perform at some of the biggest festivals in Australia, Canada and at CMA Fest in Nashville as a guitarist/ backing vocalist for the likes of Kaylee Bell and my brother Mickey Pye. I was a Toyota Star Maker Grand Finalist at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2020 & 2022 and have only begun releasing my own music in the last few years including a self-titled EP in 2020. Most recently I have been writing towards and releasing songs from my forthcoming debut album.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think fans resonate with your music?
I’m heavily influenced by singer-songwriters in country music and have always aspired to write songs to make people feel something. I like to write songs that tell real stories with honest and thought provoking lyrics as much as I love to get wrapped up in a melody that makes you want to sing along and have a good time. I’m inspired by artists like Chris Stapleton, Sheryl Crow and Keith Urban and I think their music has influenced my sound. Having grown up on a farm outside a small town, country music has always been a way of life for me and my songwriting is probably a reflection of my upbringing and the music that has inspired me over the years. For me, music is all about authenticity & connecting with people which is always at the forefront when I’m writing. I often try to write songs from the perspective of other people and delve into subject matters that I think a lot of people are able to relate to in their own lives.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
So many artists have and continue to inspire me. Growing up I listened to a lot of female singer-songwriters like Kasey Chambers, The Chicks and Shania Twain. I was first learning to play guitar around this time so would learn every song on their albums. I had a lot of rock influences from the likes of Cold Chisel and John Mellencamp and got heavily into country artists like Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert and Brad Paisley as I started going out to play gigs. In more recent years, I’ve been inspired by so many singer-songwriters. Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves and Lainey Wilson are just a few whose artistry and songwriting I really admire.

Your latest single ‘DAYS LIKE THIS’ has just been released! What’s it all about? Describe its origin and evolution.
My new single ‘Days Like This’ is a song I wrote three years ago on the day that school was starting back for the year. I was seeing lots of pictures being posted on social media of children dressed in their school uniform on their front door steps ready to start another school year. As I scrolled through, I came across a picture that had an immediate impact on me. It was a family of young children who had very recently lost their father. I remember that same picture being posted only a year or two earlier when their Dad was in the frame with them. I couldn’t help but feel heartbroken for them knowing that this was another important day they were going to go through without their Dad.
It got me thinking that on a day where everyone is so happy and excited, under the surface, a day like that must be difficult for those children and their mother. I started to think ahead at all of those special days and milestones that they were going to experience without their Father; birthdays, Christmas’, Father’s Days, graduations, and how all of those days were going to be forever tinged with sadness. I then started to think about all the people I know who have gone through a similar experience of losing someone close to them and how those special days only magnify the fact their loved one is no longer here. I felt really compelled to sit down and write this song & take on the perspective of a young girl who has lost her father to express how all of those important days in life are the ones that make us miss our loved ones the most. The idea that the days we think of as being so full of joy and celebration can actually be some of the hardest days for others to ‘get through’ really hit home to me and I wanted this song to capture those feelings.

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
Yes! I have recorded an album which I’ll be releasing in 2026. I’m looking forward to releasing some more singles over the coming months before I drop the full album next year.

What tours and events are coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I’ll be performing at “A Night In Nashville” in Orange on March 15 which has really grown over the past few years and is a must-experience event for country music fans! I’ll also be playing ‘Forage’ food and wine festival on April 5 and am planning some of my own shows in the second half of 2025 as I release more music throughout the year.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
It would have to be either Elvis Presley or Johnny Cash. My family raised me on country and rock and roll music and these two artists are the Kings of each genre respectively. Both really shaped my musical taste from a young age. Their voices and songs are so iconic & they left a lasting impact on music, so it would be hard to look past Elvis or Johnny Cash.

What are your long-term aspirations as a music artist and how are you progressing towards them?
I want to continue to develop as a singer-songwriter and consistently write and release music that has an impact on people. There is nothing like being able to perform your own music in front of an audience, so I would love to be able to travel more widely to perform around Australia and abroad over the next few years as I continue to release music.
When it comes to songwriting, I’ve been focusing on building my catalogue of songs over the past 5-10 years and have been writing a lot of music on my own. I would love to collaborate more with other writers, producers and musicians over the next few years to continue developing my craft and work with a wider network of creatives to write songs for myself and other artist’s projects.

With that in mind, what piece of advice would you give to an artist starting out?
I would say it’s important to understand who you are and what you want your music to represent. Whether it be songwriting, singing or playing your instrument, practising your craft everyday and striving to develop your skills is important whether you’re just starting out or are more established. Building relationships with other musicians/ artists and people who you align with to support your development is also going to be an important part of your growth as an artist.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Nothing quite compares to that level of human connection that’s experienced when you’re up on stage entertaining an audience. For me, it’s always incredibly humbling watching people react to words you’ve written and sing your lyrics back to you. When you’re playing with other musicians on stage, I love that feeling of camaraderie & fun that comes along with doing the thing you love most with people you admire.
I’ve had so many unforgettable experiences performing on big festival stages around Australia and overseas with other artists. Performing with my brother at Big Valley Jamboree in Canada would have to be my biggest career highlight so far. We were fortunate to play that festival in 2012 and 2015 and being on the same lineup as some of the biggest names in Country Music was very surreal and gave us so many unforgettable memories.

.

Here are three general questions your fans will find interesting about you:
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done? I once flew from Australia to Canada for less than 72 hours to play at music festival with my brother. It may have seemed a bit irrational at the time to go for such a short trip, but it was a no-brainer for me! I celebrated my 23rd birthday while I was there and got to see some of my favourite artists including Brad Paisley, Reba McEntire & The Band Perry. While I hardly slept, It was easily the most memorable weekend of my life!
What is the one topic you can talk about for hours? Might sound predictable, but it would be music!
What is the thing you like most about yourself? I always try to make decisions and take actions in life that align with my values and the things that are most important to me. I’m also quite persistent and genuinely enjoy the process of working on things I want to develop. When it comes to music, I can spend hours writing songs or practising & find as much joy in the process than the final product or outcome.
