Dane Overton and the Joy Williams band are blues rock musicians from the south coast of New South Whales. They play foot stomping, dirty, blues rock music all over Australia.

.
How did it all begin? Where did you develop your interest in performing music to an audience?
I guess when I was younger I started playing and slowly but surely wanted to get out of the bedroom and start showcasing my music a bit more. After playing live and solo for some time it became evident that I needed a band behind me too!
What kind of music did you grow up on? Which artists inspired you?
Grew up on my parents music 60’s and 70’s classics such as Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Beatles …. pretty lucky really! Since then I found Tom waits, Buddy guy and more traditional blues music over time. Tom Waits, Bright eyes. Aussie acts the Fumes and Gay Paris are massive inspirations on the music I write.
With your new Single “Darlin”, can you describe its origins and evolution? I know how challenging the creative and producing process can be. How good did it feel to complete?
I never “loved” this song when I played it solo, was completely indifferent to it in fact, But Darcy (now bass player) and another one of our mates continually mentioned how it was their favourite song (of mine) and that we should record it. Once we played it live with a full band it had a completely new life to it and it was a pretty simple decision to put it on the EP. We then took it to Syd Green of Mononest Studios and he worked his magic and helped to make it into the song that it is now! I love it now!
Is there an EP/Album on the drawing board?
October/November if everything goes to plan!
How did you find the Songwriting process? Is there a big appetite to write some more?
When you have two people to bounce ideas off the song writing process is generally enjoyable. As I mentioned, the bones of this track was well and truly sorted out by the time we jammed it as a band, it was just a matter of adding the bells and whistles to finish it!
We are always writing new riffs and songs too! We always have a few riffs tucked away, which makes jamming so beneficial when you have something extra to bring to the table.
.
.
What shows or tours do you have coming up?
Booking a large EP tour for November, have just finished a great one for January and we have the occasional gig around NSW throughout June/July
Keep on our socials for updates!
If you could pick absolutely anyone to bring on tour with you, whom would you pick and why? (Dead or Alive)
I honestly have no idea. Darcy and Taylor are great to travel with now and we usually take one or two “roadies” or Photographers who come with us on a journey. I guess if I had to choose a famous person I’d probably go with Charles Manson… an interesting fella who I dare say would keep us entertained for a 5-7 hour drive…. might convince us to do something wild too.
What are your major goals or milestones for the future?
Finish this EP for one!
We are trying to hit as many local blues festivals as we can currently.
Have plans to go back to Europe and plans to get to WA one day soon too!
