Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
Pretty much, yeah. It was either play music or play AFL and I was too scrawny for the latter.
I took piano lessons from a young age and eventually moved on to guitar. I started writing my own songs towards the end of my school years.
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
My sound is somewhere in the alternative/punk genre but it’s also uniquely me and very story-driven.
I like to think my lyrics will hit people right in the feels and then they’ll connect with my music on another level.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Too many to name, but Vance Joy was a pretty big one for my new single in particular – I saw him live a few years back and he was brilliant.
Your new Single ‘UP’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
Up tells a personal story of trying to help a friend through her depression. I found that by putting myself in her shoes I was not only able to help her as best I could but I myself gained some new perspective on what’s really important in life.
Helping her helped me, and my hope is that the song might help others.

.
Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
The goal is to release an EP by the end of this year, then get back to work writing some new songs to release an album in the next year or two, but we’ll see how things go!
Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
No tours planned but some local acoustic gigs are definitely on the cards.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Travis Barker – the dude is pop-punk royalty and I think I’d learn a lot from him.
Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
This is all pretty new to me so I don’t really have long-term aspirations just yet. That said, the opportunity to collaborate with any of my favourite artists would be a dream come true.
.
.
What’s been the career highlight so far?

About ACCORDING TO PLAN
According To Plan is the solo project of self-taught guitarist and vocalist, Dave Rennie from Gawler, South Australia. Dave has always dreamt of being a musician, despite criticisms from friends, family, and teachers alike arguing that it was not a realistic choice and insisting on having a ‘Plan B’. Dave stuck to his plan and has since worked with producers Israel Amoy and Michael Cutayar on several tracks set for release in 2022.
According To Plan hopes to create meaningful music that people can resonate with and assist them through their own personal struggles.

About ‘UP’
According To Plan’s second release ‘Up’ tells a personal story of the efforts made to help a friend who is battling depression – riding every high and low with them, while trying to remain positive and help them. Inspired by the likes of Vance Joy and Amy Shark, ‘Up’ takes a hard turn from According To Plan’s typical pop-punk sound; using acoustic guitar and cello accompaniments to create a sad, yet uplifting sound that reflects the lyrics’ subject matter. ‘Up’ is raw and emotional and can resonate with all listeners who have found themselves in a similar situation by offering a valuable insight into the importance of understanding mental health and how it can affect the people around us.
