How did you all find each other and decide to share your musical talents as a group?
Palle and George had been buddies since high school and Hamish had played in another band with George before Death by Denim. Nik came in late through a mutual friend and we all decided to have a jam together. Death By Denim was born!
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
It’s always one of the harder questions that we have to answer because we don’t like being pigeonholed to one sound. We love our psychedelic rock as well as indie rock and pop. We try to create something slightly unique with all of our influences. I think people really resonate with our music because we always write about personal life experiences that most people can relate to, whether its relationships, mental health, partying etc. We’ve all been there.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
So many! Tame Impala. POND, Methyl Ethel as well as Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottlemen and hip hop/r&b artists like Travis Scott, Frank Ocean and Kanye West, just to name a few.

Your new album Sleepless and Sunkissed has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
It was originally planned as an EP, but with everything that happened in 2020 we decided to turn it into a full-length album. We recorded the album in 3 different stages with Andy Lawson at Debaser Studio and we are so proud of the outcome. The main themes are loosely based around our time last summer and all the good and bad times we’ve had as people over the last year and a half.
What are the signature pieces on the album, and which is your favorite track?
We really wanted to make synth and fuzzy guitars stand out in the album. George bought about 100 different synthesizers and really went to town on it in the studio. My favourite track is Caged. Gets me amped up quite a bit and live it’s a raucous time.
Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
We have our national album tour booked for next May/June which we are so pumped about. Hopefully Australia can keep up the good work and we can get back into the touring side of things. We are also back in the studio very soon to churn out more songs. Never stopping.
.
.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
OOOOF. This is such a tough question innit. I think we are all huge fans of Arctic Monkeys, so to be able to play with them would be pretty special. Oasis too, I think that would be such a funny night. We would love to get on the beers with Liam.
Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
Absolutely. We want to take our band as far as we possibly can. Touring the world, playing festivals and making music is what we live for!
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
We always say that playing live is what gives us the biggest thrill in life. Nothing beats a top show. Playing Falls in summer last year was quite incredible and also our last national tour in November 2019. We had just released Wiggy and the reaction at our shows was awesome.
