Have you always written your own music? When did you start writing songs?
Since I can remember i’ve watched my brothers bands and also looked up to those that are just able to completely control a crowd and I feel as though there is no better feeling than hearing others know your words and songs. So since I was around 13 i’ve been writing my own music. I try to write a few verses or chorus a day.

What kind of music did you grow up listening to? How has that impacted you and your music?
I grew up around a lot of indie rock and hiphop. A lot of Foo Fighters, Silver Spoon, Nirvana, Wolf Mother, just to name a few. Since I was 12 I started listening to artists like Ice cube, WuTang, biggie, etc list goes on haha. So since then I fell very heathy into the hiphop and pop scene.

Your new single, “Whisper” comes out May 14. “Whisper” will be your second single release so far, how does it build or evolve on your debut track “LAMBO”?
LAMBO was my first release on Spotify and I didn’t think it was gonna do as good as it has. I feel as though since bringing out LAMBO i’ve really found my sound and way with music. Whisper is a great unique track i’ve done and excited to see how it goes along side LAMBO.

Can you share the origins or inspiration behind “Whisper”?
A lot of the lyrics in WHISPER have a lot of meaning to me as at the time of writing WHISPER I was going through a hard time. I feel as though when I’m writing music I put as much emotions and real ilife struggles into my sound as possible. I also wanted to make it fun and mysterious in a way. Also got abit of inspo from artist like Arctic Monkeys and Billie Eilish

What do you hope your listeners are going to take away from listening to “Whisper”?
I hope my listeners from hearing whisper take away the fact I feel as though I’m very versatile within music and am able to bounce between genres. I also want them to hear it as a fun catchy vibey song that I feel as though fits a lot of genres.

Was the process of writing a song different the second time around? Can you describe your creative process?
When writing my music I also write to what vibe and head space Im in at the time. As with LAMBO was in a Very party hyped up vibe but with WHISPER it’s more of a dark funky vibey track. Really just depends on what I feel like writing about on the day.

What inspires you the most to be creative and write music?
Music is my absolute happiness nothing gives me a bigger smile or satisfaction as writing and completely creating a song from scratch and hearing that finished sample. I love the vibe and process of working with other artist and the fact it can be a completely different vibe each day keeps it exciting. And a big thing is the fact I can do what I absolutely love and potentially make it my career for life.

You have played solo gigs around Australia and also whilst drumming in a band. What is your favourite thing about performing live? Are there any downsides for you?
No better feeling in the world than hearing a crowd singing and chanting your own lyrics even if its 10 people 100 people or 1000 the feeling never gets old and that for me is my absolute dream. And couldn’t say there is any down falls for me so far.

Can you share a favourite memory of yours from a live show?
Myself and Akeim Takamura who was on LAMBO with me performed a lot during 2020. And my best memory so far would have to be our last show at HQ complex hearing and seeing everyone knowing all all the words and hyped up jumping around the vibe was through the roof. Came off the stage that night knowing this is what I wanna do for life!

Who are your biggest music influences at the moment?
A massive one for me is Nipssey hussle the way he wrote his tracks the real talk the motivation the stories etc are one of a kind. Another would have to be THE KID LAROI as it’s a big inspiration seeing a young artist from Australia also make his dream come true. A big one for me is ROD WAVE his music hits on another level very versatile and refreshing.

.

What is next for you in 2021? Do you have any live gigs planned?
Yes actually have a live show on the 14th same night and WHISPER is released. And my plan for the rest of 2021 is to take big steps towards expanding to the states and working towards Labels in LA and across the US even AUS.

Are you working on any more new music at the moment? Perhaps an EP?
Yes I am have 3 Songs ready to drop back to back after WHISPER and an EP is definitely something in the books!

Where do you see yourself in a year’s time in your music journey? Do you think you’ll stay based in Adelaide?
My plan and goal is to expand overseas get at least 1 of my tracks in the charts and really dream of the world hearing what I have to offer!

If you could collab with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Would love to collab with ROD WAVE as feel as though we have a really similar sound to some of my others tracks. Another big one for me is RODDY RICH I feel as though he doesn’t take short cuts always puts his all into it.  Artists like NLE Choppa, THE KID LAROI, BILLIE EILISH. My absolute dream would have been to write a West coast LA vibed track with Nipssey hussle and have always had a vision of writing a chorus for him and getting some of the best LA based rappers on a big feature such as YG,  TY DOLLA SIGN or RODDY RICH.

Do you have any long-term goals or aspirations you are working towards in your music career?
My biggest goal atm in music is to be heard worldwide get my name out there and show the world how versatile and how much I have to give in this world of music and performing. Working towards getting signed and getting as much radio play etc as possible.

About “Whisper”

Whisper is a track that can be interpreted by the listeners in many different ways. For DeCoda S it is a song that he put a lot of effort in, he wanted to make something that would stand out and tall in a crowd of songs. Whisper has a very indie approach and the creation was heavily influenced by Billie Eilish’s musical style.
