Electric Eye Festival welcomes SULDUSK to Perth

As the excitement builds for Perth’s upcoming Electric Eye Festival, one of the most anticipated acts hitting the stage is Melbourne-based dark folk metal outfit Suldusk. Fronted by the incredibly talented Emily, this band has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a solo acoustic project to becoming a multi-faceted, award-winning force in the heavy music scene.

In a recent chat with Amnplify, Emily opened up about the band’s evolution, starting from recording raw, intimate tracks on a laptop to crafting songs that now blend light, dark, acoustic intimacy with full-on blast beats. The journey, as Emily described it, began with a DIY spirit reminiscent of early black metal projects on platforms like SoundCloud, eventually growing into a band with a unique sound and aesthetic.

Suldusk’s first album may have started as a solo endeavor, but Emily’s collaboration with multi-instrumentalist producers transformed it into something much bigger. Recognized by Music Victoria as the Best Heavy Album of 2019, this album marked a pivotal moment for the band. One of the highlights? Being the first heavy band to ever play at the prestigious Melbourne Recital Centre, an experience that left Emily in awe.

The upcoming Electric Eye performance will be Suldusk’s first time playing in Perth, and they couldn’t be more excited. Emily, whose Greek island heritage makes her a natural lover of the beach, is already looking forward to soaking up Perth’s coastal vibe. When asked about the upcoming setlist, she hinted at a mix of old and new material, with the band’s latest release Anthesis taking center stage. The opening track, “Verdalet,” is a personal favorite, a statement piece that perfectly captures the band’s signature sound of contrasting textures, mixing soft acoustics with aggressive metal elements.

Looking to the future, Suldusk has big plans. With a new album set to release next year and European tours on the horizon, including a spot at the Fortress Festival in the UK, the band shows no signs of slowing down. While Emily admits to preferring the writing process to performing, there’s something magical about connecting with the audience on stage—especially when the music resonates deeply with listeners, sometimes even moving them to tears.

When asked about the craziest thing they’ve done, Emily’s response was thoughtful: continuing to push forward in this unpredictable life and using music to share those experiences. That vulnerability and courage are what make Suldusk’s music so compelling and authentic.
