Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you start writing music?
As a little girl I would always surround myself around music & whenever church would be on, I would sit out on the back steps & sing. At the age of 6 my great grandfather really believed I had a gift because I would always sing you are my sunshine around his apartment.  When I was six years old he paid for my first singing lesson. I remember loving every minute of it & I still do. The first time I wrote a song would’ve been in High school I was bullied pretty badly so I got my inspiration from that, the song is called Long Way to Go written by Shaza Leigh & myself.

How would you describe your sound?
Traditional Country with a modern twist.

Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I believe the reason why people resonate with my music is because I write from the heart, I want people to hear my stories & other’s. I feel like my audience can relate to a lot of music I have written especially the loss of a loved ones, Dementia patients, bullying, happiness etc.

Which music did you grow up listening to? How has it inspired you?
I grew up with a lot of music, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Adele & a lot of other genres & artists. I was inspired by all the artists I listened to because they all had different styles. I love a variety.

Your new single/EP/Albumhas just been released/is about to be released! Describe its origin and evolution.
Erosion started when I went on tour with Angus Gill to Tasmania in 2018. I started talking about hopefully releasing a new album for 2019 & Angus has done some producing throughout his years & offered for me to start recording at his studio. Late November Angus & I started to write some incredible songs sitting on Gus’s back veranda. I told Gus a few stories that really hit home for me, We both started putting together the pieces to these songs. Angus & I also got in contact with exceptional songwriters over in Nashville which really made this album come together.

Do you have any more new music in the works?
Yes. I’m always thinking of new ideas.

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I have an Album Launch on the 28th of September at Bomaderry Bowling club. I’ll also be attending the Tasmanian Awards this year. I’ll also be touring with Angus Gil again early next year.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Dolly Parton is definitely one of the artists I’d like to perform with. She is an idol to me. She sings from the heart, expresses her emotions through her music & she writes incredible music such as ‘I Will Always Love You’.

What’s next for you in 2019?
Definitely touring, Hopefully a trip to Nashville.

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?
If I could perform anywhere in the world it would be the Grand Ole Opry some of the most legendary artists have performed on that stage & to be a part of that would be incredible.

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
My long term is to be able to keep writing & performing music. To perform to a sold out show & to keep loving what I am doing.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience?
The best thing about performing live to an audience would be the thrill, the excitement, the smiles, the tears, the laughter & the appreciation you get from your audiences.

What’s been the career highlight so far?
Recording this album, taking that next step in my career, not knowing what’s going to happen next & to be able to do it alongside some incredible musicians.

EMMA JENE RELEASES NEW ALBUM ‘EROSION’

.

.

Emma Jene has today released her highly anticipated third studio album, ‘Erosion’.

‘My new album presents songs of joy and sorrow of everyday life,’ says Jene. ‘Circumstances we find challenging such as those suffering from dementia, a love lost and moving on alone, as well as the happiness of coming home, a new love found, and finding the essence and strength within ourselves to feel confident about our future.’

All the songs have her signature blend of emotional country songwriting and spreading positive messages, with underlying rock and pop influences. Inspired by her work as an aged care nurse, the title track ‘Erosion’, relates to the journey of dementia patients.

‘When you’re singing to dementia patients, it can bring back memories they had when they were younger,’ says Jene. ‘I’ve always wanted to help people, make a difference in society, see smiles on people’s faces and make sure they’re okay and have what they need.’

The album comes after the release of the Shoalhaven singer-songwriter’s first single ‘Feels So Good’. Written by Jerry Salley and Hannah Blaylock, the track also deals with the issue of mental health.

‘For people with mental illness, music can make them feel a little bit better and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel,’ Jene says.

‘Erosion’ was produced by award-winning singer/songwriter Angus Gill at Hot Plate Studio.

“Emma Jene is the definition of powerhouse. One hell of a vocalist and an excellent entertainer,” says Gill. “Not only have I had the privilege of producing her new album, but we’ve toured many times and she always has the audience in the palm of her hand.”

Although she began in musical theatre when she was six, she recorded her debut album ‘Dare to Dream’ at just 14 years old. She followed this up with her National Top 10 Album of the Year, ‘Cross Your Heart’.
