How did the band come together? Is there someone who is a “driving force”, or do you all make decisions together?
So Nathan (drums) and Jared (bass) used to play in metal bands together years ago, after stopping that for a few years, Nathan would continually message Jared asking to do more music, wanting to do something fun in the indie rock realm. At the start of 2020 we decided to give it a go and sent the word out on facebook pages to try and find a guitarist and singer, we got messages from Brent (vocals) and Dan (Guitar) but due to the lockdown, they both had to send recordings of themselves to kind of “audition” for the band, we loved everything they sent through and haven’t looked back since!
Brent provides the skeletons and toplines for melodies and lyrics that we mould our songs around, so definitely the driver in the songwriting area, in terms of organisation and behind the scenes driver, Nathan is our energiser bunny who never stops thinking about the band and pushing for things to get done.
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
Our sound would be like a gritty rock foundation with buttery pop vocals on top. We love bands like Arctic Monkeys and Catfish and the Bottlemen as well as Polish Club and Royal Blood, we try to throw in as many elements as we can.
People would resonate with our music for the refined, easy to listen to sound. We feel that in each of our songs there is something for everyone, regardless of the main music you listen to or how old you are, there’s something there to appreciate or get stuck in your head.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Two Door Cinema Club actually had a direct influence on the band. Their last tour of Australia, Dan (guitar) went to see which inspired him to rejoin a band doing this kind of fun indie-pop stuff. Then that week, Dan saw Nathan’s ad on a facebook group with Two Door listed as an influence. So in a weird coincidence of events, this performance had an influence over the make-up of this band.
Your new single ‘The Signs’ is about to be released! Describe its origin and evolution?
This song actually started as two songs. We went into the studio with these two songs which our producer Fletcher Matthews liked the chorus of one and the verses of the other, so we merged them together and we came out with this.
The song itself is about those really good friends who know you inside and out, and when you are feeling down and trying to fake being okay, they are the friends who will notice and ask if you’re okay. This song is about the feeling of not wanting your facade broken, so when you are trying to seem okay, you don’t want to be with this friend or else it will crumble around you.

You have a headline show at Sydney’s Oxford Arts Factory on the horizon. What are you looking forward to and what can the fans expect?
We are very excited for this show, we have great bands on the bill who we are stoked to have play with us and grateful they wanted to be a part of the night. We are mostly looking forward to packing our friends and families into the room and just treat it like a fun party with everyone. There are a few tickets left to grab as well, so head to our socials to come and join the party!
How has COVID affected you to date? What have you introduced to balance the losses from missed events?
We started during COVID so we haven’t known too much different. Forming was online, a lot of writing was done sending files to each other for demos and melody ideas. Gigs were made more difficult to get on as a new band with venues obviously wanting guaranteed numbers to break even and not wanting to gamble on a new act.
There isn’t a lot we can do about those things, so we just focused on writing and working on our own individual parts to contribute to the band, organised our release schedules and did some planning ahead which is all coming together now.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Our drummer Nathan would definitely say Elton John, he’s been obsessed lately and we’ve started a “What Would Elton Do?” approach to our band, the answer is always bigger glasses. We will be wearing large glasses and sequin jackets from now on.
Do you have any long-term aspirations as a band?
Our goal going into this was just to release good songs and play cool shows. Anything else is a bonus and hopefully those cool shows get bigger and better. But we just want to keep enjoying ourselves overall.
