How did the band come together?
After escaping from an underground laboratory in Detroit, Michigan where they had been raised from birth as test subjects for an elite super-soldier program funded by the US government, Frankie and the Witch Fingers tried marijuana for the first time and immediately decided to form a rock-and-roll band, and to tour the world to share their life’s story. But actually, the band was formed in 2013 in Bloomington, Indiana. Dylan (singer) and Josh (guitar) met there and started playing music together and jamming on some songs that Dylan had written. They met Nikki Pickle (bass) in Los Angeles after they moved out there in 2015, and she eventually joined the band in early 2020. Nick Aguilar (drums), who is also from LA, joined the band in December of 2021.

Is there someone who is a “driving force”, or do you all make decisions together?
We all make decisions together, much like a hive-mind. We like to consider ourselves one organism with lots of mouth holes and extra appendages. One day we hope to join ourselves together surgically.

How would you describe your sound?
We like to describe ourselves as “punk funk”, or “a band that isn’t a jam band, but a band that jams.”

.

.

Why do you think people resonate with your music?
We weren’t aware that people resonated with our music, we had been hoping that would happen though.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
We like to draw inspiration from film and television soundtracks from the late 80’s and early 90’s, specifically, but not from any other time period. We also like to listen to Girls With Attitude and draw lots of inspiration there.

Your new single has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
We didn’t write “Electricide”, it was delivered to us through microscopic nanobots while we were in a dream state, we are merely the messenger.

Is there a new EP or Album on the drawing board?
Yes! It will be here very soon, next year.

What are you looking forward to about your Aus Tour, and what can the fans expect?
We are really looking forward to our first Australian tour, we heard that it’s the world’s smallest continent, so we are expecting everything to be very tiny there. Can’t wait to see how cute looking it is over there!

L.A. psych-rock figureheads Frankie and the Witch Fingers, are bringing their cauldron of sounds to Australia in November 2022. Fresh from shows with the Osees, and a jam-packed USA and EU Tour, the band are in their best form for their 6 shows through Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

No stranger to playing with Australian psych legends, Frankie and the Witch Fingers have toured the USA extensively with Perth favourites Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and will be gracing the lineup at Primavera Sound in Barcelona alongside King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard and Tropical Fuck Storm.

The band will now be sharing the stage with a slew of local Aussie acts from each city including Sons of Zöku (Adelaide); Bellhop, Heavy Amber* and Neon Goblin** (Melbourne); Turtle Skull (Sydney); and People Taking Pictures (Perth).

Coming to Australia for the first time and having already sold out one Melbourne show on word of mouth alone, FATWF are excited to showcase their swaggering and boisterous concoction of 60s rock n’ roll and psych down under where this scene has been booming. Dylan Sizemore states: “We’ve been dying to play Australia for a while now and it feels like a dream that it’s finally happening. Aussies are the best, we toured with Stonefield and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets in the States and they both absolutely rip and are the best people.”

Showing his appreciation for the AUS music scene Sizemore continues, “I know there’s a lot of magic happening down there, and I feel very grateful to be able to finally experience what’s been emanating across the world”. Bassist Nikki Pickle adds: “I can’t wait for our first tour in Australia! The music scene there is so legendary, I keep trying to imagine what it’ll feel like to experience it firsthand but I’m not sure anything could truly prepare us – I just know it’ll be rowdy as hell!

This massive run of shows across the globe follows their 2021 single release Cookin’ B-W Tracksuit in October, a  dual-track release via Greenway/ Reverb Appreciate Society. Following their ambitious album Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters which was released in 2020, the dual-track release is arguably their most accessible to date and has marked a new era for the band, proving they are at the forefront of the L.A. psych scene.

Frankie and the Witch Fingers touch down late this year, starting their run of shows on November 8 in Adelaide. Full tour details can be found below and tickets can be purchased via www.davidroywilliams.com.
