Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you start writing music?
I’ve always been quite creative, or have known myself to have a creative mind. However the first song I ever wrote was to impress a girl when I was 15. To be honest though, I don’t really know how impressed she was with my earlier skills haha.

Which music did you grow up listening to? How has it influenced your current style?
When I was growing up my parents would always have music like Van Morrison, James Taylor, Creedence and Yosuf (Cat Stevens) playing in our home. This music has all influenced me to an extent. However, it wasn’t until I heard Tracey Chapman that I really started to become inspired.

How would you describe your sound?
At this point in time I am still discovering what kind of artist I want to be. However i’m becoming increasingly influenced by artists like Lauv and Dermot Kennedy who embed very contemporary pop flavours to beautiful acoustic music.

Why do you think people will resonate with your music?
Someone… (I say someone because I remember Ed Sheeran saying it however I can’t remember who he heard it from haha) …once said that ‘Songs from the heart will cover the earth.’ This to me means be true to yourself, accept life as it comes, own your vulnerability and be honest in what you write. This will then transform into beautiful music that people can’t help listening too; and it may not be straight away but one day it will.

Your new single TV Shows has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
TV Shows is the happy of the happy songs. I wrote it about 6 years ago when I was working on a farm in the middle of Canada. I was a little lost on my life path and didn’t really have any massive aspirations in my life. I was always somewhat creative though. Every day after work I found myself inside a grain silo teaching myself to sing and play guitar. Thatss where I wrote TV Shows. It only took me 6 years to work up the courage to show anyone haha.

Explain the Kyle and Jackie O line for us!
Kyle and Jackie O, they’re on the radio – but they haven’t seen us yet.

Do you have any more new music in the works?
Yes! Stay tuned, I have a lot of music coming out this year with my next single coming out verrryyyy soon.

Any plans to play live soon?
As soon as I can play live again is when I’ll be playing live haha. Most of my performing is done in the streets so I’m fortunate enough to be able to plan gigs 10 minutes before I do them.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
I would do anything to jump on stage with John Mayer, ANYTHING. I’ve seen Mr Mayer play a handful of times and they are the most amazing concerts. The live production of his music inspired me in so many ways and I’d love to one day even meet the guy.

What’s next for you in the near future?
As I said earlier i’m releasing a lot of music this year, which is consuming a lot of my focus at the moment. I would however like to see a smaller East Coast Aus tour later in 2020 or early 2021 (depending on the pandemic). You can expect to hear a lot more of my voice currently though through livestreams and new music.
P.S I’m actually doing a Zac Brown Band Tribute Show in a couple of weeks over live stream which should be a bit of fun.

What are your longer-term aspirations?
I have a timeline I stick to, which is a long story and kind of hard to explain, however I have a 5 years plan which I would be humbled to achieve.
Although i’m a real believer in taking this journey day by day. You can’t really make too many solid plans in the music industry, if you did you’d likely go insane. I love what I do and as long as I continue to love it I’ll keep making music, regardless of people listening or not.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience?
I don’t know if it’s the same for every musician, but I love performing because it’s like riding a big wave, or skydiving. There’s a point where you’re a little nervous (the more you do the less and less you see this). There is a point where you’re flying and lost in your own thoughts and emotions. Then there is a point of true happiness, which is indescribable.

GAUDION
announces new single & video
‘TV SHOWS’

Newcomer Gaudion recently announced his clever new single TV Shows, a wistful reflection upon love and loss written during a period of deep change and development for the artist.  Gaudion has also revealed a sweet, adventurous video to accompany the track, directed by Gudio.

TV Shows is one for fans of guitar pop and brilliant Australian songwriting.  Evocative of Dean Lewis, Ziggy Alberts, and Ben HowardTV Shows would feel at home on the soundtrack for a coming of age romantic film, or perhaps it’s that track that you’ll play over and over on your next summer roadtrip.  Catchy and affecting, this song features Gaudion’s lovely vocal performance front and centre. Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, Gaudion explains,

“TV Shows is a small part of my life.  I began writing the tune when I was working on a small farm in a rural area in Canada’s Saskatchewan.  In this place I was turbulent.  I never knew what I wanted to do.  So I taught myself to play guitar and sing inside a grain silo every day after work.  I was also going through a difficult stage of adolesence; through this song I was aiming to express my current feelings with music.  Every time I’d think of the things I was going through I’d write a little bit more of the song.  It’s not the first song I ever wrote, and definitely not the last, but it holds a long journey of my emotions, my memories and my thoughts.”

The film clip for TV Shows is open to interpretation, allowing the audience to incorporate their own meaning into the clip, which is a very special feeling.  The video follows the story of a couple who part, while Gaudion watches on on a television set.   The performance is serene, indicating a sense of acceptance of life’s inherent challenges and curveballs.  Speaking on the clip, Gaudion enthuses,

“The music video for TV Shows has been one of the most fun journeys ever.  Gudio is a fantastic director, new mate of mine and creative genius.  It’s literally a video of me watching TV Shows which follow the emotions of the music. I’m very happy with the process, the beautiful actors we worked with and laughs we had along the way.”

TV Shows is out now.
